I had a similar problem, the problem i had was that HP scan Pro just quit on me whenever i opened it up to scan using wireless and usb. so i wen to the help and support website and downloaded the installation software for the printer.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=3757825&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en&submit.y=0&submit.x=0&lang=en&cc=uk

then uninstalled the HP software i had previously installed and then installed the downloadable software from the link above. then it all seemed to work.
i dont know if it could be a bad batch of software disks that got distributed with the printers or what? but just to let u know, i encountered this issue using Mac OS X i don't know if its the same for other Macs and PCs. Either way i think its a software issue so if in doubt just download all the latest software and drivers etc. from the HP website.
you didn't buy this from PC World recently when they had this printer on offer did you? cos i did, just noticed the date when this was posted. i got mine last week and only just installed it today!

Good Luck

All settings on printer are shown as "Locked". I didn't lock them and can't unlock them.

Try accessing the Embedded Web Server in the printer.
e.g. HP Photosmart C4380 All in One Printer Series and C4550 C4580 and C4585...

(the EWS can be accessed in the 6700 series All-In-One printers using the same process as in those printers.)

HP Photosmart C4585 printer says print cartidges missing or not detected and not connected to wireless

Try to verify if it recognises the catridges you have. If not, clean the contact pins and try to fix it again.

My c4585 will only copy and print a black page

Can you see the scanning light come on? If you can check the feedpath. There may be something blocking the window.

Can not scan to my computer

Hello,

Scanning thru a wireless connection is not supported on these printers. Printing does not require that much data to be sent back to the computer, scanning of course does. Printers require a bi-directional signal path to allow scanning such as USB and parallel ports. Sorry to be the barer of bad news.

Can't scan to computer

I am not an expert, only a c7280 user. I use my printer wirelessly and was having problem scanning when using the controls directly on the printer (scan menu). By trial and error, I tried scanning by going to HP solution center on my computer and just followed the directions from the scan menu. That worked. If you can print wirelessly, you can scan wirelessly. I agree the HP support is a huge waste of time. I only get mad talking to them.
