to format ur phone
press *#7780# then the phone code (by default it is 12345)
this format will restore ur old settings
*#7370# and the phone code (by default it is 12345)
it will format ur total phone memory, remember, all ur data such as contacts and msgs saved in ur phone memory will be deleted.

most probably its not detecting your simcard. but do this to confirm. switch it on with card inside, allow it to fully load. then click the power off button, shutdown options will appear. select general profile. at this stage, the phone will indicate properly if the card is being detected. if it says insert card, then check sim slot contacts and if problem persists, take to a nokia service point.
