Battery wont hold charge model #WL 2401 - Baby Gear

The Lorex WL 2401 is a great monitor that you cannot purchase anymore. Nor does Lorex provide a replacement battery. That is becuase the battery is permanently fixed to the mother board and not replaceable. I was using it with 4 pan tilt cameras and it worked great to monitor just about anything, including my kids running around in the house when they were smaller. Problem is the monitor has a non-replaceable battery. After years of giving up on battery replacement I presented the challenge to my two sons, both EE, one graduated (TA&M) and one a junior studying Electrical Engineering UT-Austin. Their solution was quick, easy and works great. Rather than replace the battery, just use a small 1 amp USB charger in its place. There are just 3 simple steps. 1) go to radio shack and purchase the correct adapter plug with outside diameter 3.4mm and inside diameter 1.3mm RadioShack SKU# 2731048 worked for me. Bring your Lorex Monitor to RadioShack to confirm it fits into the power supply jack on the monitor 2) Get a short USB cord, cut one end of USB cord, splice and solder and heat shrink wrap it into the end of the purchased adaptor. Red is hot or positive and black is negative. Ignore the other wires which are data wires. Google "USB Wire Code" if you have questions 3) Buy a small 1 amp cigarette syle charger, (I use an ANKER 6200mah, about $8 on Amzaon, some velcro and Velcro it to back of Lorex monitor. Its so small you can still walk around with the monitor in your hand. Plug it all in and presto! I now have two ANKER 1-amp chargers so when one goes out I simply un-velcro it and replace it with a charged one. Soldering the connection takes some skill. My son's had experience in EE labs how to do this. If you do not know, maybe you need to ask a friend who has soldered connections before. Bottom line is that I am back in business with my Lorex 2401...and I am getting some return on my sons' educational investment. Plus the modified unit now provides twice the run time (6hrs) before needing to recharge. Total cost...connector $5, Charger $8, Velcro $2m, heat shrink and solder: $5, and we had a solder gun. Total time to fix: About 30 min max. I hope this approach can help others bring their Lorex 2401 back to life!!

I have the same Lorex unit and was down to no more than 5 minutes of battery life. After disassembling, I found that the lithium ion battery was bulging, a sign of battery failure.

A Google search of the number imprinted on the battery (503778) lead me to a seller in Sweden with these battery specs:

  • Polymer battery 3.7V 1600MAH 503778P 78 * 37 * 5MM electric GPS navigation eBook
I ordered the $10 battery (free shipping) and received it in about two weeks. I then swapped in the new battery (splicing and soldering to the old leads). I now get about 2-hours of video-on run time while on battery.

Good luck!

Why wont my battery charge hold!!

You have a nickle cadmium battery, which develops a 'memory'. Maybe you do not let it go completely dead before you put it back on the charger. NiCad batteries should be allowed to completely run down before recharging. The only fix is battery replacement.

It will charge but after i take it off it wont turn on at all

That means the battery of your camera can't hold a charge. The light on your camera or battery indicating that it's charging flashes whenever it detects any power being wired into the device, not necessarily that the battery is holding power. Depending on what camera model and brand you have, you should contact their customer support for a new battery.

If both lights are flashing after you put a cool battery on the charger, the battery is bad. It could have a bad, worn or shorted cell or other problems inside and the charge will not charge it as long as it reads it as a bad battery. Rechargable batteries do have a finite life determined mainly by how many times you recharge them.

My sanyo pm 8200 wont hold charge!

Since the battery and charger are new and yet it does not still hold charge.

Have put the battery in another similar phone and try to charge with your charger to see if it will hold charge? if you have.

It means the charging port of your phone is bad and you will need to replace it.

The charger is not charging the battery in anyway because the charging port is bad, so just change your charging port, your phone will now hold charge.

Take care.

Battery light will not go off

I am posting a generic reply to the "charge fail" lamp (that is the correct term - when the lamp is lit = the battery is NOT being charged) problems rather than a specific cure for the ills in your car.

I suspect a faulty alternator OR an inadvertent short to battery - potential of the wire leading from the charge fail lamp to the battery charging alternator. Please try the following tests (BE CAREFUL while working - you are working near the engine + v belts + fans etc. and a fully charged battery = can be very dangerous)

Locate the three terminals of the battery charging alternator. The largest terminal would be connected to the battery positive cable (may be red in colour). The second terminal could be labeled as "W" = this is the terminal generating a frequency proportional to the engine speed for the tachometer. The third terminal is the WL or D terminal. The Charge Fail lamp is connected from battery positive (via the ignition switch) to this WL/D terminal.

Turn the ignition switch on but don't start the engine. Observe the "Charge Fail" lamp glowing in the dashboard. Now remove the wire going to the WL/D terminal. The "Charge Fail" lamp should now stop glowing. If the lamp continues to glow, there is surely a shortcircuit between the wire from the lamp to the alternator.

As this lamp current is not going to the WL/D terminal due to the short circuit, the battery charging alternator is not producing very little or no output. Check if the battery terminal voltage rises when the engine is running. If the alternator is working correctly, the battery would be at 13.2 Volts with the engine running.

The confirmatory test is to rig a spare lamp (12V, 3 or 5 watt lamp in a holder) between battery + to the WL/D terminal - if that works properly (lit when the engine is stopped and off when the engine ir running), you can connect a new wire from the lamp to the WL/D terminal - do isolate the earlier wire completely from from lamp as well as alternator end.
Hope this helps. Write back if I have confused you further.....
