Why does my riding mower die when put in gear or engage the blades

Check out the grass box safety switch. if not fully depressed it will apply brakes to the blades when in gear. Most mowers are designed with a safety switch to stop the blades, or forward motion if the grass box is not fitted correctly.

Craftsman 2 mower, 12 HP, 38 inch cut, problem is transmission won't engage ... has a spot that looks like a grease gun fit ... what kind of fluid goes in it as well any suggestions on why it won't...

If this is a manual gearbox there will not be an external grease filler, they are sealed and only need topping up if they have been taken apart, if the drive belt is dragging on the gearbox pulley when the engine is running this will stop it engaging, will it go into gear with the engine stopped?

Riding mower won't go nowhere it's got drive belt on but won't drive

Is it a hydro? check the release lever some times i forget too. If its gears then try different gear and check that the belt is engaging fully if the clutch spring broke your pedal shouldn't push back up.

I have a craftsman lt 1000 riding lawn mower and it runs, but it won't go into gear it goes into gear, but clutch won' engage the gear.

Look under the mower to see if the drive belt has come off or broke. It is the belt that runs from the bottom of the engine to the rear axle.
