There is a way to override and reset... I think you need to press *67# when in the system pin area via menu. Confirm this first though. There is a way to do this though- then you reset it to 0000- google it and you will find the answer-

SOURCE: purchased a 8800 handset off
On the manual in the link below it will tell you haoe to register you handset. On page 3 for the handset and page 4 for the base.
