Hi jill.
if you have photoshop cs2, here's the direct link for the S6500fd photoshop plugin download from adobe. Photoshop should open raw after you've installed this:

http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/cameraraw/mac/3.x/DNG_Camera_Raw_3_7.dmg

Here's  the adobe downloads centre link in case you need to check up on everything & the installation instructions.

Good luck!
Andy.

What does raw+fine pictures mean?

The raw+fine setting indicates that your camera will take both raw (NEF) and high resolution JPEG pictures with every shot. You can change this to shoot just JPEG or just raw shots using your menu under the little camera icon. Click on image quality and it will give you multiple settings so you can choose only raw or only JPEG. You have three JPEG settings: fine, normal or basic.

I always shoot raw+fine which I think may be the default setting. I use the jpeg pictures for simple and quick editing and I use raw for detailed editing. JPEG pictures deteriorate quickly during editing while raw pictures can handle extensive editing without significant deterioration.

When you shoot raw+fine, it means the camera is actually storing two pictures of the same shot, one in each of the two formats. When you view the pictures in Windows, you can tell the difference between the raw shots and the jpeg shots because the raw shots have a broad black bar across the top and bottom of the picture while the jpeg shots fill the screen.

I get 2 images when downloading raw images from my canon 5dMk3 to apple iPhoto ?

Your camera image format maybe set to save both RAW and JPG file formats.
Change the setting to a single file format not both formats.

My emails come in with all the code info before the sender's message is shown, how can i turn off the code info to just receive the senders message?

This is called "Long Headers" on the Mac. To change whether to see these message headers, in Mail, select a message. On the menu bar, select View -> Message -> "Default Headers". You can also use the keyboard shortcut, Shift-Command-H to hide/show these.

If that doesn't make the change you're looking for, you may have "Raw Source" turned on. This is in the menu View -> Message -> "Original Content".

Both iPhoto 6.0.6 & iPhoto 8.1.2 refuse to import RAW files from my Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5. Only a Jpeg version shows up. I tried on two different computers: 2GHz G5 DP running OS 10.5.8 via USB &...

Nikon's software supports Raw directly. There are 3rd party raw downloaders available for windows machines, probably have Mac versions too. Google for raw file software.
