Question about Cameras

1 Answer

Olympus cr 350. New camera. After number of photos taken when turning on the camera it says to either turn of or format the memory card. At the store I got a new camera, but still have the same problem. I can take some photos, then I get the same message. At the store service desk they tell me that the camera could be incompatible with the brand of the memory cards Transcend, at the department inside the store they say it is not probable.

May be your memory card was error/damaged, format it and check for error.

Thanx! Olympus customer service has confirmed the camera isn't compatible with Transcend memory cards!!! They suggest to use Sandisk or Toshiba.

Your camera is not SDHC compatible. It will only support standard SD cards. Sorry.

SOURCE: My new memory card will not work for the Olympus Camedia D-560

The problem is that the largest xD card that your camera can support is an M or H 512mb card. The 1gb card is not compatible. The firmware in the camera cannot support memory storage with that capacity. The camera came out before those cards did and there no plans to upgrade the camera to allow those types of cards to be supported.

Formatting won't make it any easier for any recovery program to find the photos, so I definitely wouldn't do it, but leave the card as it is until you've successfully recovered them. In my opinion, the best program to use is called PhotoRec and you can find it here. It's free, released under the GNU licence. (Be sure to save any photos you recover to your computer... not to the card itself.) If that fails, then move on to try paid programs if you wish.

After you've recovered all the photos that you're going to get, only THEN would I format the card (in the camera please) in order to re-use it.

Olympus C-350 zoom indicates that card is full. Deleting files or changing card has no effect. Can you help?

One good reason for this problem is that you have been constantly deleting pictures from your memory card. To bring this back on line to working condition and restore the total speed and operation abilities of your camera you need to Format the memory card. First transfer all important files to your computer before formatting the memory card I'm including a diagram of instructions of how to do this. It's actually a screen shot of page 32 of your owners manual.

I don't want to format the card yet as I will lose all my photos,

Did you take these photos using another camera?

If you formatted and used this memory card on another brand of camera you have no choice.

The best thing to do is download your photos and then format the card.

Camera not properly reading memory card

The problem stems from deleting some of the images from the PC. You need to copy all the files onto the PC, and delete all of them from the card on the camera. Then reformat the card on the camera. Then take 1 picture on the camera.

After you have just 1 new photo on the card, try copying the older files back onto the card in the same directory as the 1 new photo. This may work.

If it doesn't work, the problem may be with missing hidden thumbnail files. In that case you may not be able to get the photos to display on the camera again.

Olympus and card problem

Hi. Thanks for your question, it helped me solve the same problem on my 720 SW. I don't know what initialised the problem but I had the same result - when I turned the power on I only had the option to format the memory card or turn the camera off. The solution was to take the memory card out and download the pictures using a card reader connected to my laptop. When I re-inserted the card and turned the camera on it worked normally. To make sure that everything was again OK I formatted the memory card to make sure it was properly re-set. Good luck and thanks. Rob
