SET button difficulties

The SET button is very hard (impossible) to press. It is placed in a middle of a rocker with four other functions left, right, above and below it. Whenever I want to press SET, one of the other functions is activated.

Re: SET button difficulties

I had the same problem...ended up getting it fixed under extended warranty. Otherwise, the problem is impossible to fix without a spare camera for swapping parts.

Takes pictures but you cannot see image in lcd screen

This model only lets you see the image in certain modes. Test if it is properly working by changing the image mode to "P" and pressing the "Set" button (its in the middle of the arrow keys if you're having difficulty finding it. That should display the image on the LCD screen.
If that doesn't display an image, press "Menu" (upper left hand corner) and press the right arrow 4 times to get to the wrench with two dots menu (says "LCD brightness" on the first line. Press down 5 times and select Live view function settings and press "Set". Make sure the first line is set to enable. This should resolve the issue.
Please leave feedback if this was helpful, thanks.

Self timer

Press the "function set" button to the right of the display, then press the "scroll down" button (or six o'clock position on the ring around the function set button) until the square box on the left side of the display is highlighted. It will say "drive mode" at the bottom of the display. Press the scroll left or scroll right buttons (or nine and three o'clock positons on the ring) to select the time for the shutter delay. Don't forget to reset the selection back to normal mode (square box icon).

Far more complicated than it needs to be and the manual is useless.

Canon A540

The date will only show up on the picture under a limited set of circumstances on the Canon PowerShot digital cameras, of which the A540 is one. You've probably found the Date function in the menu, but discovered that it was off, grayed out, and skipped over whenever you tried to reset it.

Date stamp will only work in "Postcard" mode. Press the Function button (labeled "FUNC SET"), then press the down button until you reach the Recording Pixels selection (usually labeled "L", but not always). It's probably the bottom onscreen selection. Use the right or left buttons to select Postcard, then press the Function button again.

Press the Menu button and scroll down to Date Stamp. Now you should be able to select "Date" or "Date & Time" with the right or left button. Press Menu again and take your pictures.
