SOURCE: drill chuck removal

The screw should be left hand thread and the chuck is normal thread. The 'workshop' way to remove the chuck is to remove the screw (done). If the jaws are still working then clamp a sturdy allen key in it and whack it against a workbench to unscrew the chuck. If holding the drill in the normal position you would stand with the workbench to your left and whack it down on that. If the jaws aren't working then you can grip the body in a vice and use large pipe grips or stiltsons on the chuck. Also check to see if the chuck spindle will accept a thin spanner to hold it, as this is a slightly more caring way to brace the spindle. Then you can can hold the spanner in the vice and use the allen key in the chuck and unscrew it that way.

SOURCE: how to remove chuck from drill press

I just looked at a breakdown for this tool and it is not that clear. But to get an owners manual you can go to Searspartsdirect.com and type in your model number and look at the same schematici I did and also order a manual for about 7.50. Usually though on a drill press like that it would be a morse taper. Do you see a slot cut thru the spindle on both sides, if so there should be a tapered key that came with the unit. In that case what you would need to do it put the key in the slot and tap it with a hammer to remove the adaptor and chuck. Let me know if I can help further

SOURCE: chuck removal

First open the chuck jaws and remove the LH chuck retaining screw. After that find a bent handle allen wrench about the size of the chuck. Put the shorter end in the chuck and clamp down on it. Put chuck on a block of wood or workbench with the long end at about a 30 degree angle so you can hit it counterclockwise with a hammer. It might take a couple hits but it will come off.

SOURCE: bosch 18volt brute force cordless drill how do i remove chuck

Put the screw back in the chuck, tighten it up then back it out 1 turn. Take a punch, put it in the chuck and give it a quick hit with a hammer. That should do the trick.

Yes it does have a Morse taper and you can remove it by gently hitting it with a rubber or nylon mallet.

Hi Charles! The chuck is fixed to the spindle by a bolt (with Ph2 or hex head), you can find the bolt head if you look directly into the chuck (with its jaws completely opened). You'll just need to fix the chuck (with your hand most probably), and unscrew that fixing bolt (might be with left-hand thread! - don't use excessive moment, first try it gently both ways). After removing the bolt you'll just need to gently tap the bottom of the chuck - through a piece of wood - with a hammer, to remove the chuck from the spindle. Gently is the key word - in order not to damage the chuck and ball bearings/gear set of the drill.
Below are 2 reference links from Craftsman and Sears Parts catalogue - may help you as well.

I want to put a taping head on my drill press. What is the spindle size of a craftsman 12" drill press?

without the model number I am going to guess that as a general rule most smaller drill presses are a #2 morse taper socket and a #2 jacobs taper arbor (where the chuck presses on) you should have been supplied a knockout pin to remove the chuck assembly from the internal socket.

How do I replace the chuck on a craftsman model 315.101370 hammerdrill

The chuck can be removed and replaced with a new one.
Unplug the drill.
Insert a 5/16 in. or larger hex key into the chuck of the
drill and tighten the chuck jaws securely.
Tap the hex key sharply with a mallet in a clockwise
direction. This will loosen the screw in the chuck for
easy removal.

Insert the hex key into the chuck and tighten the chuck
jaws securely. Tap sharply with a mallet in a counterclockwise direction. This will loosen the chuck on the
spindle. It can now be unscrewed by hand.
