Removal of entire unit plastic frame to change Control Panel

We need to replace the control panel due to malfunction (we have the new one) but cannot remove the outer frame of the unit so that we can access the control panel screws to remove it. It is plastic so we want to be careful not to break it. Any idea of the technique with removing this?

SOURCE: the control panel light is very dim. It is hard

we had the same husband removed the panel and I clean the inside glass panel & it resolved the problem. It is a convection oven and steam comes out just below the clock area which I believe causes the problem.

Show me how to pull the control panel out

The control panel is fixed to the stainless steel inner panel. You will need either a phillips or a T20 torx screwdriver depending on what fixing have been used. You will need to take out all the screws which line up with the control panel plastics. There is usually one in the left and right sided at the top of the inner frame also. The screw by the door lock along the top will have to come off if it has one. Looking at this unit it is an older design so it should do.

Now sometimes you will need to loosen off the screws holding the front decor panel a bit, I normally loosen the top and middle ones enough to free up the control panel a bit to jiggle it out of position. It is easier to take this decor right off and get the control panel out but takes longer.

Now if you have the unit I think you do the plastics on the control module will be quite brittle so be careful not break it if you need to check it for some reason. There are a few plastic clips around the module which clip it into the metal frame. The metal frame clips into the display fasia. You should see the clips round the edge of the metal frame which are tricky to get off sometimes. Once you have the display plastics separated, then you can un clip the module from the metal frame. As I said be careful especially of the buttons.

Also be careful not to pull on the cables to much if removing witht he decor panel still on the unit. The edge of the metal may cut into the wires.

As with any work on electrical equipment, please stay safe and make sure the unit is unplugged.

How do you replace microwave bulb in GE combo microwave and oven wall unit model # JKP86B0F7BB. I also need to know the type of bulb needed.

To replace the bulb part number WB08X10012 you will have to either access control panel to microwave (its behind it) or pull the entire unit out of the wall enough to remove the side panel just behind the control panel. Either way you elect to enter unit please turn off power first for safety. Not an easy task to do, but possible if you able to change this yourself. Cost is high to have a service person do this due to liability issues.

Good Luck

I have a Bosch model number she43m02uc/50... I need to replace the buttons but cant figure out how to do it myself and disassemble the panel.

To remove the control panel on the machine there are a total of 6 screws holding it on. Four screws across the top of the inside of the door and 2 more on the sides.
Once you have removed all the wire connecting plugs from the control unit you should lay the control panel on a towel face down to work on the four clips holding the metal frame onto the plastic control panel. Be careful not to break these clips as they are delicate. Don't force them to move more than they need to disengage. Once the steel frame is removed out of the plastic control panel you should have access to the plastic buttons to replace them.

The plastic cover on our GE Oven Model JKP70W started separating and then came off, leaving it very unsightly. Can this be replaced or does the entire control panel need to be replaced? Any similar

Call GE - 866-622-6184
There is a campaign to replace that part as they are defective.
They will send you the part for free, but charge you $200 to install it. The install is not too hard. Make sure you power off the oven when you do it. Instructions are included.

Whirlpool double oven rbd306pdb15 displaying code e6 f2. What does this mean?

HI. This code is in reference to the keys that initiate actions on your unit, The cancel key is malfunctioning at this time. Follow the procedure below to correct the issue.

1. Disassemble the control panel and check the keypad connector for firm connection (keypad connects to the control board).

2. Press CANCEL. If error code returns after 60 seconds, replace keypad (also called touch pad or membrane switch). Some models incorporate the keypad in to the control board as one unit. In this case, replace the entire control board (also called ERC or clock).

How do I replace the Control Module?

Actually all you need is a #20 torx screwdriver, a flat screwdriver and maybe a pair of needle nose pliers, but it can be done without the pliers if need be. The level of difficulty is hard to say since everyone has different and unique skills, but generally on a scale of 1 to 10 I`d say is likely a 2 - 3 depending on ones skills.

May I also inquire as to why you`re replacing the control ? Are you aware that typically the only thing which causes an error is the heater relay solder joint or the plastic tabs breaking off the casing which houses the control ? Did you know both are repairable ?

Anyway, just curiosity on my part, I digress.

**SAFETY FIRST - turn off the circuit breaker to the dishwasher before attempting any repairs or service to the unit**

I have a complete training manual I can send you if you`d like it, but you`d need to provide your email address, I can`t post it here it is adobe "pdf".

1) Remove the screws along both sides of the door panel until it is able to be removed, there will be either 2 plastic blocks which will fall out or molded styrofoam inside the panel, set the blocks and panel aside out of your way.

2) remove the screws around the perimeter of the control leaving the 2 ( one on each side ) facing away from the panel for the last.

3) once all the screws are removed the control fascia will be ready to pull away from the inner stainless steel door skin.

4) the fascia ( plastic cover with buttons/control face ) can now be separated from the inner control panel frame. If you observe closely you`ll notice it is only held together with tabs which need to be gently pulled away from the metal frame and then the fascia should pull off.

You should now be left with just a metal frame with the latch, power switch & rod and control board held in it.

5) All the wires in the bottom of the control will typically only go in one place, but it`s best to take a photo or mark them anyway...better sure than sorry right ? Remove the wires.

5) the plastic control casing is held into this metal frame only be tabs as well, push them inwards on one side and tilt the entire control back ( like it where hinged) and it will come right out.

6) This step should be much easier now that you`ve gained experience during the dis-assembly, reverse the steps to re-assemble it.

**if your door panel had the plastic blocks, they can be a pain to put back for one not experienced. The easiest way is to leave the two side screws out of the control panel to give it room to move into place at the top first and then down over the blocks.**

If you need help we`ll cross that bridge when we get there, get the control issue looked after first.

Let me know how you make out and if you want that service manual I can send you via email, it`s not very big...maybe 6MB or so.

Good luck

Touch Control panel of my daewoo KOT-151S microwave needs to be replaced. I have to push control pad several times to get it to operate. Sometimes it will go on after just a few pushes, other times it...

We regularly replace these.

You can send your KOT-151S control panel assembly to us to install a new membrane keypad. The cost would be $64.95.

Or you can order an entire control panel assembly (plastic frame, stainless trim piece, keypad, and control circuit board) for $88.85, which includes return shipping.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your model number) for more information & help.

Control panel disassembly

Shut the breaker off to the oven first. Frame around mircowave is a snapped on front. Removing allows access to two screws under control panal. Must actually pull entire unit out about 9 inches to access top of control area to remove access panel. Once front control panel is removed and top is opened, easy access to what you need to get to. Carefully write down color coding of wires before removing any of them. Remove old power supply board and display and reconnect. Reverse process. A bit of work but if you watch the disassembly process carefully, pretty easy.

Touchpad contaminated by cleaning now this plastic has melted.

You would have to order control panel frame assembly ("panel med assembly"), which contains the keypad and bezel.

To replace it, you remove the control panel assembly, take out the circuit boards, and place them in the new frame.

Here are the part numbers:

66403S Panel med assy
66403B Panel med assy
66403R Panel med assy

If you or someone you know wants to work on it, we have critical safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:

If you'd like for us to do this work for you, we can do it for $39.95 plus parts.

Microwave touch panel is unhinged at the bottom

The mounting tabs on the control panel frame have cracked off most likely due to age, heat, or imperfections in the plastic.

If the tape idea doesn't appeal to you (*grin*) it will need a new control panel frame. That normally comes with a new keypad, but I would need the model number to be sure.

It is probably going to be referred to as the control panel in the parts list and it should run about $50 plus shipping.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here:

Also, these units have mini-manuals hidden behind the control panel and they're very handy to use.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa:

Normally you would unplug the oven from the wall, remove the 2 or 3 screws holding the grille in place, remove the screw at the top of the control panel frame, then CAREFULLY lift up and out to remove it.

Then you can mark and/or photograph the wires to be sure they all get back in the same place. Then you can see how the circuit board would come out and then go into the new control panel frame.

If you don't want to replace it, I would suggest that you get it squeaky clean and dry and use a small amount of household cement or Elmer's Glue-All (not super glue) on just the bottom edge, then temporarily use tape to hold it firmly in place until it has cured and dried.

Please write back with more details if you need further help.

We appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
