Lost disc space

HP Pavilion dv9308nr windows vista premium home addition 32 bit; had to have the hard drive erased by HP and then had the Geek Squad replace my info from external hard drive. Went from 53% free disc space to 23% after this was done. Many things were copied 2 or 3 times ( pictures, songs mainly). I deleted duplicates but there was no gain in disc space. Also have a recurring problem with HP Officejet 7410 deleting itself - have tried suggestions from HP help but still not working correctly. Extremely tired of paying for pcs that don't work correctly and for half done ''repairs'' from the Geek Squad or other computer experts, for that matter. Would be most grateful for any help.
