Re: xm6660

It sounds like you may have a power-supply problem. You need to measure the DC voltage across the B+ and ground terminals of the amp. If it doesn't remain near 12v when the amp is on, you need to determine why the voltage is dropping. It could be due to a defective fuse or a corroded connection at the battery.

Thermal light goes away when ground added

Doesn't sound like anything is wrong. If the thermal light is on before you have the ground hooked up then the amp is probably getting a small amount of electrical ground from the shielding on the RCAs or its mounting to the chassis of the vehicle allowing the amp to "barely turn on" (not enough ground). I can imagine this would make the amp think something is wrong (ie: thermal light) . May I suggest that you do not try to turn any amplifier on without ALL appropriate wires connected correctly.

A blue light is on on my amp and there is no sound coming out of my subs what should i do i checked all the wires. it didnt turn on when i started my car, then i went to my friends house and turnd the car...

Very likely the amp is overloaded and goes into protective thermal shutdown. Letting it cool off for a little while would allow it to reset. could be it's not capable of sustained power level you like. Next most likely reason is miswiring speakers - if you have more than one and they are in parallel (the usual case, with all the red+ terminals wired together and all of the black- terminals wired together), check to see that their total impedance is no less than the minimum specified in the amp's manual. The total impedance is Z=1/(1/Z1)+(1/Z2)+(1/Z3)... where Z1 is the impedance of the first speaker, Z2 the second, etc. For example, two 4 ohm speakers in parallel = 2 ohms.

High wattage car stereo

positive (1 guage) from main battery to second battery positive terminal. hook all amps positive to second battery and hook 2nd battery ground to frame of car (where amp is now grounded) if you have a 2nd battery a cap is a waste of money. make sure all grounds (battery and amps) are together on same ground point of car, do not ground amps to battery - ground everything to 1 spot on the frame or body of the car ! - yes you can pigtail remote leads.

Jl audio 250/1 thermal light

Disconnect all speaker wires from the amp and disconnect the RCA cables from the amp. If it still goes into protect mode, use a multimeter to confirm that you have 12v on the B+ and remote terminals. Place the black meter probe on the ground terminal of the amp when measuring the voltage. If the voltage is sufficient and the amp goes into protect, it will have to be repaired. JL only accepts repairs from authorized dealers. You'll have to find one in your area or you'll have to find a repair shop willing to work on JL amps.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

XM-552HX ofside led turn yellow

You may have an issue with the impedence of the woofers causing the unit to go into protection mode. Make sure that the woofers are no lower than 2 ohms at the amp. This can be done with a voltmeter to check. You are better off running the woofers at 4 ohms if possible. If you disconnect the speaker wire from the amp, does the yellow light still come on? If so, then there may be a problem with the amp.

I have a xm6660.... yellow light...

There are some things I want you to check, 1) Make sure your ground is good and I mean very good, 0 ohms resistance to the negative battery terminal 2) Make sure that your AMP is grounded to that ground point you checked in step 1. 3) Make sure that your power supply B+ wire is one continuous run no taps or spliced connections. 4) Your speakers and woofers are all properly impedance matched to your amplifier (if your amp is 8 ohms then your combined speakers impedance must be 8 ohms total). 5) voltage regulation to amplifier is good. 6) Check all connections and ground points again After these items are done power on your unit and then see if the problem happens again, if it does the issue is inside of the unit, one of the internal components has gone bad and you will need a schematic, a multimeter, and an audio tracer to work on the AMP with.
