SOURCE: refridge stopped working after a power surge

First, check to see if the light comes on or if there is any fan, motor, or other sound coming from the appliance? If so, the refrigerator isn't really completely stopped--go to the specific problem you are having. If not, try adjusting the thermostat to a colder setting. If that doesn't work, read on.

Second, check to see if there is power getting to the refrigerator. To do that, plug a lamp or other device into the same outlet the refrigerator is plugged into. If there's no power, check the fuses or circuit breakers. If the fuses or breakers aren't the problem, contact a qualified electrician to restore power to the outlet.

If there is power to the appliance but it still seems to be stopped, there may be a problem in one or more of these:

  • Wiring

  • Thermostat

  • Defrost timer

  • Compressor

  • Overload and/or relay

SOURCE: fridge stopped working after a power outage. When

You may be correct. Remove the back cover by taking out the screws (cover will have to go back on) and see if the complressor is really hot. Allow the compressor to cool down and then plug the unit in. If you hear a click after about 30 seconds; you may have damaged the compressor relay and it will have to be replaced with the overload located on the side of the compressor.

My fridge and freezer stopped working. Nothing's running. It doesn't cool or freeze. None of the mechanical parts are working. Only the lightbulb turns on. What can be wrong?

if removing the mother board made no difference to the fridge operation then it would be logical that the mother board is faulty
These machines do not like power surges( can originate many miles away)
have a technician check it out

Fridge light does not work.

Some appliances have electrical schematics on the back of the fridge, some are hidden behind rear cover. Wire,Switch or fuse..not much else it could be.

After power outage, fridge does not work but freezer does

Sounds like a thermostat got damaged when the power surged when utilities were restored. Thermostats are usually behind the temperature controller. Hope I've helped. BB

GE SXS Fridge/Freezer

if the fan in the freezer compartment is not running theres a problem.
verify power to the fan motor, if present replace fan motor.
if not hopefully theres a wiring schematic/diagram so you could trace that circuit back to the control board and verify whether thats bad or not..
WR55X10942 - BOARD ASM MAIN CONTROL
generally though if the fan by the compressor is running the fan in the freezer should also be spinning and have power..
by the way, it states in the parts listing that it is a dc motor
WR60X10074 - Motor DC Evaporator Fan
hope this helps,
best of luck,
ttfn

Frigidaire gallery fridge model glhs269zdw1 not working after power surge..fridge lights are on and I can hear fan running..the water dispenser also stopped working.

You are hearing the evaporator fan in the freezer but not the compressor motor, therefore no cooling. This is a classic symptom of a bad control board - you will need to check and replace the circuit board ! best of luck

The fridge is making a constant clicking noice

Had the same problem on my GE bottom freezer fridge. It finnaly died a few days ago. The clicking came from a relay on the main circuit board under a access cover on the back of the fridge. Ordered a new circuit card from GE ($157.50 + ship/handeling), replaced it, and the fridge works great. I have an electronics background but if you take your time and are safe, I think anybody would be able to change it.

THE TEMPERATURE READOUT FOR THE FRIDGE AND FREEZER IS BLANK AFTER AN ELECTRICAL STORM. THE REST OF THE APPLIANCE SEEMS TO BE WORKING OK. GE PROFILE MODEL#PDS22SFSALSS

A power surge? Possibly main control board, guess it's on the back of the fridge /covered flat metal plate/.
