Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

Washer stops between wash and rinse, and stays full of water. ld code

Washer stops between wash and rinse, and stays full of water. Gave me ld code. I unscrewed the hose and looked at the pump, but there is nothing in there (very clean and not clogged or anything). The washer still won't drain the water. Do I need to replace the pump? Thanks,

Hey guys, many thanks for all the posts and answers to this. These were very helpful. My machine is a Kenmore Elite Oasis HE type 580. I have taken out the pump and all the outer drain system, and all is clean. I have tested the pump with an outside source of power and it works fine. I tried a Rinse-Drain cycle before having connected the the in-water hoses, and it worked fine, except that it didn't have water inside, so it finished cycle properly. I have tried the Express wash cycle with the water available this time, it worked until reached minute 27 (out of 51 min) and sat there for ~10 minutes doing nothing, then gave ld error code and started to beep. Now that the punp is working fine, and that the washer spins on Rinse and drain cycle, but on none of the other cycles, I am wondering whether this is the computer. Macmarkus, my washer doesn't seem to have the back-flow/check ball. What do you guys think?

    Hey again,

  • Ashraf Jul 23, 2013

So, after another few attempts, I am still at suqre zero. The washer works fine (with the lid closed and everything fine) for 20 minutes or so. The motor works fine, and washes normally. It just stops before the Rinse cycle. After checking the pump and drain system, these look fine. So, my assumption here is that the pump is not getting the order to start, and this might be a control board problem. What do you guys think? Thanks for your patience with me.

Hey guys, my washer is less than 6 years old. Again I have tried everything posted above, but I still have the same problem. The drain system is clean and I tried the pump on an outside source of power and it works perfect. The lid closes normally. My washer is top load and doesn't have back-flow/check ball. I am suspecting the control board. What do you guys think?

See this steps and fix it. God bless you

Lid Switch Assembly

If the washer stops mid cycle the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly

If the washer stops mid cycle the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Water Inlet Valve

If the washer stops mid cycle the water inlet valve cold water side may have failed. Most washers have a cold water rinse and so if they can't fill with cold water they just sit indefinitely waiting for the cold water to enter. If there is cold water to the water inlet valve and the cold water works in other parts of the cycle - or to make warm water - the valve is not the problem.

Main Control Board

If the washer stops mid-cycle the main control board might be defective. This is not common. Check other causes first such as the lid or door switch and other components.

Timer

If the washer stops mid cycle the timer might be defective. This part is often misdiagnosed, check other components before replacing this timer.

SOURCE: F02 Error Code on Kenmore

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

Based on your information posted I understand you have the Kenmore HE3t washer, correct ?

Reading your description and factoring in all you've done and inspected, it may in fact be a faulty pump...(the F02 ultimate worse case) even if it is draining slowly it does not rule it out, trust me I've seen many of them.

By reading your post I've gathered you are pretty thorough so I don't expect you missed it, but I must mention it or I wouldn't be thorough either, I think you can appreciate that, have you checked the back-flow/check ball ?

If not, here's how...

Pull the boot off if you have not and just see if anything has got in there to obstruct the "ball" from working correctly. It is shown here...(this is from the back, but you can do it from the front...just not as easily...in my opinion)

macmarkus_939.jpg
Undo the clamp and inspect inside...if you have not already.

macmarkus_938.jpg

It's amazing how often I find this ball "stuck" or the bellows clogged with debris of all sorts of items...definately worth looking into before declaring the pump has failed. Good luck. Let me know how you make out as I said and if I can help you in any manner going forward I will do whatever I can.

I've also included a more thorough link of my repair tip below

SOURCE: Rinse cycle stops. F02 error code. Tried to solve

Hello, Welcome to FixYa. The "F02" on your model of washer indicates the machine has detected a fault or obstruction in the drain process as you obviously already know. Chances are the pump itself is the fault based on your post, at least it can`t be ruled out...yet. Here`s how to check it and clean it... Though it being full of water may make it messy. A wet-dry shop vac is handy in this situation. If it is in a position that allows you too lean it back against something strong or a second set of hands it will help if tilted back almost all the way. Careful not to hurt the machine or yourself, and undo the fill hoses and drain hose. **Turn off the breaker at the service panel or unplug the washer from the wall socket...safety first** 1) locate the screws in front at the very bottom of the panel below the door and pull the panel down and forward until it is off. They will be either 1/4" hex head or #20 torx head screws. 2) You will immediately see the drain pump in front of you with a large removable filter. 3) Turn it counter-clockwise should allow you to remove it and inspect it and clean it out. Make a good thorough inspection inside the pump as well not just the removable filter. 4) Re-insert the filter and before placing the panel back run a test rinse/drain cycle to inspect for leaks and to verify the unit drains and spins now. ( If the problem still exist`s the "F21" will re-appear. If so you`ll need to check the hose/rubber bellows from pump to tub...back-flow ball...for other obstructions ). 5) If all appears OK after your efforts, well your efforts paid off...pat yourself on the back. You just saved yourself potentially a couple hundred bucks ! Now You should be good to go. Re-attach the lower panel and you`re back in business. **NOTE: if this still fails to remedy the F02 or if it returns immediately during the next drain you may require a pump unfortunately...part # 280187 available at "searspartsdirect.com" "repairclinic.com" etc. **This however can also be caused by the back-flow ball inside the bellows which connects the tub to the pump. There is a large clamp which secures it to the tub, but if you remove it to clean out all the dirt built up inside, make sure you get it good and secure when putting it back.** If you'd like the benefit of this solution with pictures, visit my profile page and look for similar "F21" or "F02" postings they are one and the same just different eras. Let me know how it goes and if you require further assistance. Thanks for choosing FixYa. Please take a moment to rate the solution provided for you here today. Good luck. Regards, Macmarkus :)

SOURCE: Kenmore 44072 Front Load Washer Drain Hose Cleaning

Try this link for step-by-step instructions. More than likely you will have to clean the drain pump as well.

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385844-checking_drain_pump_kenmore_elite_front

If you are having trouble draining the water from the wash tub, and cannot get it to drain with a shop vac, you can drain it directly from the tub. If you don't own a shop vac, you may have to bail. If your drain pump does not have a clean out trap, remove the inlet and outlet hoses to access the inside of the drain pump. Inspect the pump impeller for obstructions and/or damage. If the water will not drain when you try to pull a vacuum on the drain line, you may have to disconnect the drain hose from the bottom of the wash tub. In some front loaders, there is a ball valve in the drain hose from the bottom of the wash tub to the drain pump. This ball can act as a collection pint from lint and debris. You will need to remove the hoses from the bottom of the wash tub to clean this area. I would recommend doing this as a LAST resort. Often, it can be difficult to reconnect this hose to the tub and get it to seal correctly. I hope this helps you. Please post back if you need further assistance.

SOURCE: WTW6600SW2 Won't Drain

same thing happened to me just yesterday...

I removed the back end, tilted the washer forward and put books under the back legs...
i slowly drained the water from the tub, by loosening the elbow between the drain pump and black drain hose...

once the water was drained enough not to flow out when I removed the pump...I loosened the elbow and removed the pump, pulled it apart and took out a thin, thin piece of metal that had came from who knows what...replace the pump and works great...(for now)

My Whirlpool Cabrio top load washer won't start now but it first started by giving LD code when would wash only heavy items like full load of towels or bedding (all others ok). If I let it sit for awhile...

we ran into this problem with ours too. I swear, this washing machine is the biggest piece of junk I've ever bought.

We used to get the LD code at the beginning of each load of wash. We solved this by manually holding the lid down tight until the lock mechanism clicked in place. Once locked, it should stay that way for the duration of the wash cycle.

One day, it just stopped giving us locking problems.

ld sure sounds like lid switch problems. Suprised to see this so soon, but I did see one come apart on a fairly new Whirlpool. Luckily, it should be easy to check. Unplug the machine first.

''LD'' error

Hi there,
“LD” stands for “long drain,” meaning it took an excessively long time for water to drain out of the washer. Common causes for this are kinked drain hose or clothing, like panties or socks, caught in the pump suction hose. Why, I’ve even heard of bra wires coming loose and getting stuck in that hose, collecting all sorts of gookus and pinching off the flow of water to the pump. Can you imagine? Yea verily, as surely as the Sacred Suds doth eternally pass my lips, the “LD” error code springs forth from such anomalies.
