Big leak

It is so common that the drain leaks in many ways and is the most problematic fault in a washing machine. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that water has leaked then as the drain hose pump/valve and fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for possible leaks here. In some cases the drain hose would be clogged at the drain end to outlet of the house and so there will be back flushing resulting in overflow to the outside. Also the drain pump/valve can be clogged or the drain hose clamps can be loose on the grip which can all cause the leak to occur. Removing and cleaning the drain pump/valve, tightening of the hose is also very important. Also water can leak if there are gaps on the front door gaskets and must be checked but this will happen only during the cycle and not on the drain cycle end.

Drain valve plastic slow leak 81V-80D

If the drip is coming out of drain valve: Put a hose cap over end of drain valve.
If water is seeping out of cracked drain vale, then replace it.
If the leak is seeping around previously sealed threads, then tank may be rusted beyond repair.

After cleaning of the drain duct/hose the washer must be placed with a slight tilt to the drain side to allow full drain of residual water.

If the drain valve is not working check voltage when the program to drain comes on, if not the controller also must be checked.

We have a leak from the drain valve. Can we fix the valve with packing or gascket or is it better to replace the valve ?

If it is plastic I would change it out and replace it with a brass drain valve. Some may call it a boiler drain valve. Depending on condition of the valve you currently have will determine if it is repairable.
You have to drain it down to repair and it would just be as easy to replace it since you drained it.
Most hardware stores should carry this valve
Below is a link with some information about upgrading the drain on the heater to avoid problems.

Water Heater drain leaks and has caused rusting on tank

If you're sure it's the DRAIN, just get a garden hose cap for it (your other option is to replace the valve - drain tank, replace valve, refill).
