Disconnect the coaxial cable at the back of the satellite receiver or cable box by unscrewing the coupler on the cable end.

    • 2
Attach the cable to the RF IN jack on a surge protector and tighten the coupler clockwise.

Connect a second coaxial cable from the RF OUT jack on the surge protector to the input on the cable box or satellite receiver. If this stops the hum, congratulations: You're done.

    • 4
Unplug the subwoofer's electrical cord from the power strip or wall outlet if it is connected to the same circuit as the AV receiver. The amp in the AV receiver and the amp in the subwoofer are in conflict over the grounding of the electrical circuit.

    • 5
Plug the subwoofer into its own surge protector and connect the surge protector to a different wall outlet than the AV receiver uses.

    • 6
Disconnect the subwoofer cable from the back of the sub and the AV receiver if all other measures fail to stop the humming. Reverse the plug connections so the plug that had been connected to the receiver is now connected to the subwoofer. Turning the cable around may solve a problem known as ground-loop hum by reversing the shielding wire inside the cable.

Woofer is humming

Usually a faulty cable or blown speaker will cause a humming. If it is a constant humming I would surmise a faulty cable. On the other hand, if the humming comes and goes I would guess a faulty speaker.

I have hum bars on my televisions just the vizios i have 3 other televisions and they are perfect

Hum Bars are caused by electrical interference. If you have other equipment hooked to the vizio such as a VCR, try unhooking the VCR and hooking cable directly to the tv bypassing the VCR. If you have a Cable signal amplifier hooked up that also can cause interference if it is going bad. Some tv's can handle the negative interference better than others. You could also try moving another tv into the room where the vizio is and see if that gets hum bars as well. In this situation the process of elimination is the best method. If it goes away using a different tv then it could be the vizio. If a VCR is the problem your best bet it to leave it unhooked. If an amplifier is the issue try it without the amp hooked up. Now with the change over to digital you may not need an amp and can leave it disconnected. If Not you can easily replace the amplifier. If these don't work I would suggest contacting your cable provider so they can properly assess the electrical problem and assist you in fixing the issue before causing and damage to your equipment.

I have a new tv, a Vizio model VL370M and there is a humming noise when I am using standard definition. It is present also when I use a DVD player. It is not the cable box. A Vizio repair man put in two...

If you can handle it then check the 12VDC supply filtration. I mean to say that you have to confirm that the 12VDC is coming with stability and no noise inside it. The filtration work is being performed by the capacitors in the circuitry. Check the capacitor condition in main board please. If it is plague (bad capacitor) then try by replacing it. The sound can be mainly heard through speakers and it most probably caused by sound processing area presents in main board. This kind of thing can be eliminated by changing the main board.

good luck

Humminf sound from subwoofer

Most humming sounds in speakers is due to electrical currents or wifi signals nearby the speakers.

Do you have any electrical cables near the speakers? Do you have any wifi device near the speakers?

If so move them out/away and see if there is any difference.

Humming sound vizio

99 percent of the time the humming can only come from a defective powerboard, before it dies, you should consult your warranty. Otherwise you can order the parts and replace yourself.

We have a samsung plasma 650 and a samsung htz510 We are not getting any sound thru surround system while in tv mode

Have you turned the TV speakers off within your Audio setup and turned on you external speakers? Your 510 then becomes your speakers. Also eliminates potential for audio synch issues. This done mean you have to turn both the TV and Audio system on everytime you want to "TV" programs. Good luck.

Humming noise

I am fairly certain that your problem lies in the electrolytic capacitors. This is the most common problem in vintage radios, and causes them to make a humming noise that isn't affected by the volume control.
