Question about Sony CDP-CX400 400-Disc CD Changer
Bought used on ebay and when arrived, plugged in and the player goes into a mode of searching from one position to another and not necessarily is sequential order. There are no discs installed and I erased all the data from the previous owner manually. I also tried toe erase any program play that may have been stored. It seems like there needs to be a master reset to the player, but I don't know how to accomplish it. This is only a guess on my part. It will play a CD if I put one in and select the cd position, then hit play. Pause and stop works too. Any ideas for me?

Yeppers. the first thing to do would be to use a lens cleaning disc to see if that will help. if not take the top off the unit and clean the lens manually with a damped cotton swab and slowly with little pressure move the cotton swab in a circular motion then turen around to the dry side of the swab and do the same as before and try thge unit. if that doesnt work, then the laser, tracking/focus offsets/gains could need alighnment or the slider is not working or the spindle motor circuit is not working. Im afrad these repairs would not be for the untrained peron, as you need special test equipment to troubleshoot these problems and also may not be worth taking into a repair shop. Good Luck

Your optics are either Really Dirty, or out of line and you would need a replacement optic pickup. If you are mechanically inclined, it's not a difficult repair and parts can be purchased thru lots of sites. First things first, pop the top and use "Dust-OFF" in the main chasis, it gets bad! Next, if you have a good CD/DVD player cleaner that uses fluid, run it thru a couple times then test any disc. If you don't have one, just about any convenience store has them. Just make sure it uses fluid!. If you still have an issue. post a comment and I can pdf you the schematic of the unit. it's pretty easy to read and follow if your a little more than a novice with electronics. Hope this helps
