Samsung rs21dabb defrost sensor problem

Hello Nigel Brown,

Defrost "sensor" problem... sounded pretty intriguing:
I could not resist... AMAZON & eBay abound in
"DEFROST SENSORS"...
but your model RS21DABB shows not-here/there.

FIXYA is a San Francisco Bay Area based site...
but I am proud to say we have grown into a Global
group... Welcome.

I have scoured domestic sites... and found nothing...
Your RS21DABB only resonates with the retailer at
the bottom... (espares.co.uk)

But alas... NO mention of our ever popular
DEFROST TIMERS... or power control boards

The only REAL DIFFERENCE from our world to yours...
being the line voltages different countries
choose to use...

(motors, lights & transformers are different...
but the designs are pretty much unchanged for generations)

Sounds like bad news... but not so much

My BEST advice...
Pull out your original parts list...
IDENTIFY your various SENSORS, heater elements...
- Test them for continuity (likely all good)

Find your defrost thermostat (sensors??)
Function: to keep DEFROST HEATERS from
getting HOT and melting interior plastics.
Characteristic: OPEN heater circuit at or below
room temperature (conduct at or near freezing).

Most likely issue: Defrost TIMERS... Most
modern REFRIGERATORS have replaced those
simple old timers with PCB (power control boards).
Very popular parts here in the USA...

Poured over all 12 pages of your "spares"
retailer... Nary a sign of a DEFROST TIMER nor
CONTROL BOARD... anywhere

Time for the villagers to get out the farming
implements & torches and yet again storm
those castles... (or call below)

Hope this helps...

Whirlpool fridge WRID41TS... freezer works fine.. I have already defrosted freezer. It was all iced up between freezer to fridge.. I'm after a part number or help on what to replace.. model number

One of three possibilities. The defrost heater element is faulty. The defrost timer is stuck and no longer cycling. The defrost thermostat is faulty. The heater element can be checked with an ohm meter. The defrost timer can be monitored over 15 minutes or less to verify movement. The defrost snap thermostat can be sprayed with freeze spray and checked for change of state when super cold around 30 f. Remove power when troubleshooting. Always wait for 5 minutes befor reconnecting power to allow for pressure to balance in compressor. This will keep you from destroyng the compressor. Best of luck to ya!!

Freezer getting tomuch ice, fridge doesnot gets cold

The problem you describe is very frequent. The fridge is getting the coldness from the freezer through a chant and the force of a motor fan Motor evaporator

Number: 173301 Substitution: 5300158289 part no. 26. So the build up of ice in the freezer is blocking the air pass thought and get the fridge cold. Also it may block the fan motor blades from rotating.

So the first you need to check is the heating element on the evaporator in the freezer department. This element might have burn out (and now is open circuit) and even f the defrost timer give instruction for start heating up the element is bad so the defrost is not performed. You just need to replace the heating element. Heater

Number: 178425-01Substitution:5317842502

Is the part no 1 in the diagram in this link.

If the heating element then the defrost timer is bad and does not give any instruction to the heater so you need to replace the defrost timer Defrost timer

Number: 174820 Substitution: 215846602 part no 40 in the following link

As you can see in above links and the one below you can find all the parts of your fridge which the diagrams can help you find them.

Won,t get cold freezer side not freezing it is a ge side by side . ice is present at the back of freezer side

The problem is most likely the defrost heater element(s) and/or the defrost timer. The defrost heater element(s) are located with the evaporator core behind the access panel inside of the freezer, and can be removed, tested with an ohm meter, (any reading other than infinity would most likely mean the heater element is functional) and replaced if necessary. The defrost timer can be located inside of the refrigerator, or outside of the refrigerator behind the front kick panel, or behind the rear access cover on the back of the refrigerator.

Usually if the evaporator core is freezing up and not allowing air to flow through the evaporator core, (necessary for the system to function properly) then the defrost timer is most likely working and the defrost heater element(s) would most likely be at fault.

Always place a towel on the bottom of the freezer and use a blow dryer to defrost the evaporator core and never use any sharp or hard objects to pick away the ice or the evaporator core can be damaged and the refrigerant will be leak from the system.

I have included some images to help assist you including an image of a defrost timer that is located inside of the refrigerator, and a new defrost heater element or defrost timer can be purchased from an appliance parts distributor.

Let me know if you require any further assistance.

My defrost heater is not working. Westinghouse

You did not mention if your unit was 120VAC or 220VAC parts replacement mandate you know exactly which it is your searching for as far as replacement part sources.
120VAC US parts source
220VAC UK parts source

Most often a Defrost problem is one of the following:

1. Defrost timer (there are 4 terminal timers MECHANICAL and Multi terminal ELECTRONIC timers) Any generic Defrost timer will work as long as you know the input voltage and the number of require terminals match.

2. The 60 Deg Thermostat

3. The actual heating element

This company ships international USPS

Here is a link to multiple Defrost timer examples. You should be able to match yours up with the images on this page. It may take a while but you can do it.

After a US Westinhouse search I get the feeling you may have to do a web search for "appliance repair parts UK" I hope this was of some help. (Last time I was in your area was 1997 US Navy....)

When we put the dials all the way up the freezer freezes up and the fridge gets warm We just moved it a week ago

Most likely the vibration of the move has caused:

- your defroster timer has failed or is stuck
- your defroster heater element has failed.

On most fridges, there is a little timer knob, which is the defroster timer, located at the bottom front behind the front kick panel.

If you rotate the timer by hand, you should hear a click. This should turn off the compressor and turn on the defroster heater. The heater should make some hissing/scorching sounds, plus the sound of water draining out.

The timer, if functional, should then turn the defroster off, and turn the fridge back on after a half-hour or so.

Since this part is typically on the bottom of the unit, maybe the part or it's wiring got broken by the mover with the fridge dolly. Or else the vibration of the move broke the heater element or caused a wire connection to come loose.

GSS201EMBWW Unit is freezijng up.

Most likely part number WR51X10101 Defrost Heater has burned out. Unplug and remove the rear panel inside the freezer. Defrost with a hair dryer and examine the defrost heater and look to see if burned out, It has a glass tube around the heater element and will be easy to see if burned out. If you need to replace the defrost heater you should also replace the defrost thermostat part number WR50X10054 If you don't see a problem with the defrost heater and I will instruct you on how to manually defrost to test the heater and defrost thermostat. Check for bad connections on wiring to heater and defrost thermostat. Your model has a mother control board part number WR55X10942 We may also need to check that because it does the thinking and determines the time for defrost. Let me Know what you find, Thanks, Sea Breeze

I have a GE side by side refrigerator that keeps blowing the defrost heater element. MODEL # TFT22JWDA WW SERIAL # TZ264141 I bought it from a GE dealer about 5-6 years ago. It ran fine for 3 years,...

In my GE side-by-side there is a defrost temp sensor located near the top of the evaporator coil. I think the control board uses that temp sensor to know when it should be done defrosting.

On the schematic of my fridge (link below), the defrost thermistor is part number 240 in the diagram (not part number 241, which is a different temp sensor located adjacent to the one you want)

http://www.partselect.com/ModelFrames.aspx?ModelID=361233&ModelNum=GSS20IEMDWW&mfgModelNum=&ManufactureID=2&Selected=00113321i06&Position=2&mfg=GE&Type=&Mark=2

I don't know why the defrost element would fail immediately other than incorrect supply voltage or just a bad defrost element.
