Question about Computers & Internet

Open Question

Avent 5421 Hi, I've just installed a Kingston 2gig ram in my machine, but nothing other than I hear the DVD spin then it shuts off. There is nothing coming up on the screen at all. I have re-installed my old 1gig and "voila" it works fine.............. but slow as usual. Any ideas would be useful Thanks

SOURCE: What RAM for Acer Aspire 5613AWLMI 533 or 677Mhz?

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Aspire%205610

That being said, I'll make the following comments that will hopefully answer your questions.

The maximum memory for your computer is 4 GB. However, if you are using a 32-bit operating system only 3.7 will be available for the system to use minus however much else you are sharing for the video.

Using 667 memory won't make your processor run any faster; the 533 MHz FSB is set in the processor and using 667 memory won't make the memory run any faster either; it will only run at 533. If you do get just 1 2 GB chip to make 2.5 GB total, make sure it is the same speed as the other chip. Usually it's not an issue but sometimes it can be.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

SOURCE: Take out the ram and put it back on Fujitsu S series LBS6130

Try reinsert the RAM in another slot. If there are two RAM chips then try reinserting one by one. Make sure that it sits on the slot properly

Very good resource:
SD Cards SSDs Memory Modules and USB Flash Drives Kingston
From there, you can figure out exactly which memory to purchase. Also useful for same purpose:

Hi, what RAM can I or can't I add on my GA-8I945PM ?

No, *********** board only supports DDR2 Ram thus the PC2 in your current RAM. Also the maximum capacity of your motherboard is 4gb. So if I were you I would recommend going to 4 1gb PC2-4200 modules. This would reduce latency as opposed to 2 2gb sticks. Also I recommend the 4200 rather than the 6400 or anything else as that is the optimal speed for your motherboard. Kingston is a good company to buy from, I am currently using 8 Kingston FB 2gb DDR3 sticks in my MAC Pro.

I have installed extra RAM im my vgc-m1. But it does not boot up, just keeps going to boot up normally with windows. I have checked bios setup and it recognises the extra ram, I have also got latest bios...

Hi crobinsona
The extraRam is not compatible with your system or the manufacturer's product isn't neither . Check in the Bios to see what exact type of Ram is supported . Download and install Sandra from http://download.cnet.com/SiSoftware-Sandra/3000-2086_4-10556571.html . It will give you detailed description of the existing RAM and allow you to compare with the stuff you' ve purchased .
Here are a few reliable manufacturers : Crucial , Corsair , Kingston .
Here is a reliable address for purchasing on the net : www.upgradecomputermemory.com
Similar products vary in quality from one source to another and it often happends that low price products simply don't run in different machines .
Best regards ,

Hi, I've had a similar problem with this notebook. I've managed to bring it back to life by resetting it's BIOS. To do that you'll need to completely disassemble it and remove the CMOS battery from it for about a minute or so and then put it back. CMOS battery is located at the bottom of the motherboard, below the touchpad.

It may be one of those cases where you have to use HP brand memory. Occasionally, manufacturers pull little tricks like this to make themselves more money.
