That being said, I'll make the following comments that will hopefully answer your questions.
The maximum memory for your computer is 4 GB. However, if you are using a 32-bit operating system only 3.7 will be available for the system to use minus however much else you are sharing for the video.
Using 667 memory won't make your processor run any faster; the 533 MHz FSB is set in the processor and using 667 memory won't make the memory run any faster either; it will only run at 533. If you do get just 1 2 GB chip to make 2.5 GB total, make sure it is the same speed as the other chip. Usually it's not an issue but sometimes it can be.

Try reinsert the RAM in another slot. If there are two RAM chips then try reinserting one by one. Make sure that it sits on the slot properly

Just make sure it is an original ram and it must also be the right one. Of course it should boot with 2GB. Also insert the ram properply.

Are you sure the 2 sticks are exactly the same ...eg: same manuf, type,speed...etc....some systems will not work at all unless you install 2 sticks that are exactly the same
