Our LG 50" plasma tv screen went black after a popping noise but still had sound, after great diliberations decided to take the back off and have a peek!
We unplugged the tv and tested the fuses (there were three we could see) one had blown, the one on the left as you look at the back of the tv it also has one above it. We wrote the code/seriel number down and took the fuse to the electrical wholesalers Maplin and bought a pack of 10 fuses for £1.29 replaced the fuse in the tv and everything now fine!!!!!!
Hope this might be of use to anyone whose lost the picture after a loud popping/snacking noise but still has sound.

hi the most common fault on this tv is what you describe .i fixed mine by replacing the capacitor (1uf 630vdc) at location c19 on the power board .. cost for this component less than 90p
It could be one out of the two problems..
1. The plasma panel or the components which supply electricity to the plasma in the panel have packed up.
2. The video processing unit in the set has gone.
Also the y-sus video board which is a common problem with plasma sets.
Call a competent person to remove the back panel-remove the board and power the set up-if it is this board the set will display the top half of the picture only-when replaced no picture will be displayed.
