Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

High pitched squeel from the hard drive and then shuts down.

My hard drive emitted a high pitched squeal and then shut down. About 30mins later I turned it on and it has been fine since {2 days later}. Normally when I turn it on I have to put in my password, but since the initial problem, the box doesn't come up but goes straight to the desk top. A couple of weeks ago the hard drive had repairs done to it and when I got it back the repairer had lost some of my files and changed a few things.

SOURCE: Computer

Look at the capacitors on the motherboard. These are cylinders scattered all over the place. The tops should be flat. I would suspect that some of them are now bulged up. This means that the main power lines are not being filtered correctly. Over time this will result in oscillation which is what you hear. These parts can be replaced by anyone with experience with multi-layered Pc boards. Let us know if you still have the problem.

SOURCE: Start up repair and recovery

Thank you for your response.
I finally did get it fixed yesterday with help from an Acer agent on the phone. I had to re-install the OS, and loose all my files, but none that I can't replace. The pop did sound electrical, but it hasn't done it since I've re-installed the OS. The computer is only around 8 months old, and I stild have a few months of the one year warranty left on it. Before it all happened I installed Windows Messenger Along with my Yahoo Messenger, and Was using a few registry cleaners, in which I may have accidentally deleted something in the registry. Anyhow, it is back to normal, and Im gonna be a little more careful with these registry cleaners, and as soon as I get the extra money, Im gonna get me an extra external drive.

SOURCE: power pack beeping, no lights turning on

Unfortunately your laptop is suffering from hardware failure. You may try removing the battery and using only the power cord.If this solves the problem then you either have a defective battery or bad power circuitry on your laptop. Aside from that if its still under warranty sending it to Toshiba for repairs will be your safest and cheapest option.

I have a Dell Latitude D630. When the laptop is switched on it emits a high pitched scream and will not boot. I disabled microphone in BIOS and machine boots fine. Re-enabled microphone and same probl

It sounds like a driver problem, normally the microphone is off on-boot-up. It should only be opened by a program wanting to use it.

Have you tried turning it off in the operating system, rather than the BIOS?

Download the correct drive here.

Black screen, high pitched squeal

A set that has only a 1/2 inch bright line through the middle of the picture, from left to right, has a vertical output IC that is not working correctly. If the 1/2 inch line is in the middle but going up and down, then the horizontal yoke circuit has stopped working. These are problems which should be looked at by a qualified tech, but if the set was purchased 6 months ago then it should still be under the manufacturer's warranty.
