You require Norton AntiVirus from a disc as a clean boot will be required due to the virus "hiding" in the RAM.

1) How to you open the cpu case to get to the fan, etc. 2) My fan has started making noises......can it be cleaned - or is it likely to need replacement?

Things You'll Need:
  • phillips Screwdriver
  1. Shut down your Dell desktop computer.

  2. Remove all of the power and peripheral cables from your computer. There should be no cables connected to your computer when you attempt to remove the cover and open the case.

  3. Watch for the green "Power" indicator light to dim. This light is on the back of the case near where the power cable plugs in. Your computer will hold onto an excess amount of energy for a few seconds after it is unplugged. You don't want to open your Dell computer case while this light is still lit.

  4. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the side of your Dell desktop computer's case. Set the screws aside.

  5. Use your hands to pull up on the side of the case, separating it from the base of the computer. This will allow you to access the inside of your Dell desktop computer.

I have an Acer Aspire One 532h netbook and it was working fine one day, then the next when I turned it on, the lights went on and the fan, but nothing on the screen. Now it won't turn on at all. The...

Remove the hard drive before you take it in for repairs. Do not touch the circuit board on the hard drive. Put it in a clean, dry place away from children or pets until you get the computer back, then reinstall it.

Hopefully, the hard drive is easy to get at through a removable panel (see your owner's manual). If not, when you take it in, ask the service tech to take it out right away and give it to you in an anti-static bag. Take it back with you when you go back to pick up the repaired netbook so it can be reinstalled. The cost for this should be covered in the warranty.

On boot up I get 4 short beeps what is the computer telling me.

That's your cell phone.

The beeps are BIOS Beep Codes.
4 short beeps means the same thing as 2 short beeps.

Problem with the Ram Memory.

Computer off, and unplugged from power - Desktop
Computer off, and all power removed. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery - Laptop

Suggest you remove all Ram Memory modules, and clean the gold plated contact pins on the bottom, with a pencil eraser.
If you are not using a solid eraser, and are using an eraser on the end of a pencil, refrain from letting the metal band contact the contact pins.

Rub the eraser up, and down on Each contact pin. Both sides.
Use air to remove the eraser dust.
You can use a can of compressed air for computers if available, or air pressure from your mouth will be sufficient.

Don't worry if you cannot see that you have cleaned the surfaces of the contact pins.
Using the eraser I assure you that the eraser will clean them.

The gold plated contact pins develop corrosion on them after a period of time.
Doesn't take much corrosion to make a bad contact surface.

Reinstall the Ram memory module/s.
Close the computer case, or reinstall the Memory Compartment Cover.

Plug the desktop computer back into power, WAIT 20 seconds, turn it on.

Reinstall the Battery into the laptop, plug the AC adapter back in.
WAIT 20 seconds, turn the laptop on.

We have an approx. 6 (7?) yr old Dell Dimension 4500 Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz, and I think we upgraded the RAM a bit a few years back. The computer runs extremely slowly...we've tried removing...

Well an actual very good idea is to reinstall the operating system. This will help the system a lot even if it's an old system.
Here is a tips&tricks that will help you in the future:

Try a defragmentation of the primary partition and uncheck some of the unnecessary software that open with the operating system from Run-msconfig.

If you need further assistance please leave a comment.

Need to open the Dell Inspiron 530 in order to clean it

Facing the computer your left side is the left side of the computer.

Going around to the back of the computer, there are two screws to remove, so that you can slide the left panel off.

They are along the outside edge of the left panel, and on the backside of the computer.

One is located approximately 3 inches down from the top.
One is located approximately three inches up from the bottom.

In-between the two screws is a bulge. A formed place in the back edge of the left panel.

Once the two screws are removed, hold onto the computer with one hand, and place the fingers of your other hand into that 'bulge'.

Pull back to slide the panel towards the rear of the computer, then lift the panel up, and out.

This Dell Support, and the Owners Manual for the Inspiron 530 desktop computer,

In this main menu scroll down to Removing and Installing Parts, and click on it.

Problem with transfering images onto my Windows 98

you might have to remove the driver in safe mode of windows 98.

then reinstall the drivers for the camera after removal.

also look in the control panel for add/remove program and look for your camera drivers

if they are there remove them, and reinstall the drivers.

also there are some computer where the usb port could be failing, try the camera on another computer, but i really would suggest a card reader for camera, since it take away the wear and tear of the camera by hooking it up and turning it on for transferring the files. i just use a card reader, and just used the camera to take pictures.
