hi..while viewing a text message, just hit the volume
on the side of the phone.This will change the font size
larger and smaller accordingly.

before you start typing, go to options -> and something like 'text style' ?
while you can't change the font, you can type with text that has been struckthrough, underlined, bold, italics, and you can also select 3 text sizes.

you can't do that per sa, however there is a "remedy".
If your reading you text messages and the font is small use the volume rocker up to make it bigger and down to make it smaller.
