My husband accidentally dislodged the belt on my kenmore canister vac. how can we disassemble the head to put the belt back on?

There should be 4-5 screws on the bottom of the brush assembly, remove them and you will see the brush and belt, remove each end of the brush assembly they should lift up and out of the housing, and either replace or reailine the belt on the motor side of the housing.

F5862 900 where is the belt on these

This model does not have a belt. The brushes are turned by airflow through a turbine assembly. Clean the lint screen first, then try to turn the brushes by hand. If they will not turn by hand remove the brush assembly, if the brush assembly turns freely the turbine may be seized.

Loud noise when the brushroll is on

Your clutch is slipping, either the belts have stretched or there is sufficient debris in the brush roll end caps to slow it down. Both issues can be problematic as Dyson uses a special tool to lift the drive belt to facilitate removing the brush roll. It looks like this: if the problem is stretched belts, more than 3 years old, you can get replacement belts but must take the the clutch out and disassemble it to install the new belts. This sounds daunting but any knowledgable service center can do this in a matter of minutes. Conversely, you can purchase a new clutch assembly with new belts but that gets costly. If all else fails, call the Dyson help line, the number is located on your machine and advise them of the situation, they have a a 5 year warranty on some items. Remember all parts of this vacuum are serviceable and don't forget to clean your filters.

Where is the belt housed on the Hoover vacum cleaner model U5461-900? The belt number is 38528-033 but I can't find where the broken belt is to replace it.

Simply lay the machine down with the brush assembly facing upwards, and remove the four screws holding the bottom plate in place, and remove it. Put the new belt around the motor shaft, then around the brush assembly and push the brush back into place. Turn the brush with your fingers before replacing the bottom plate, to be sure the belt isn't caught between the brush and housing.

The roller stop rotating

Remove the brush assembly from the base unit and check the condition of the drive belt. Check the brush end bearings for wound-up thread, hair, and other debris. Place the brush back without the belt--it should spin freely. Reinstall the belt if it is in good condition and check for motor running of the brush. If it seems weak, replace the belt. Hope this helps!

Not picking up as brushes not turning, the belt is not broken.

obviously if it is making the same old noises then the motor is running so no fault there, the brush only rotates when handle is lent over for pushing the DC14 (ie not when using the pipe and tools) the only other thing that stops the brush rotating is the hard floor/carpet selection on the right of the unit. make sure that hasn't rotated.

If all else fails your brush is seized and you will burn the belt out soon so unclip the brush cover and clean up the roller but try not to disturb it's position unless you have to as it's a tight fit on the belt

Why does the belt keep breaking on my kirby

Odds are that the problem is not with the belt or the pulley, but with an agitator (rotating brush) that isn't turning freely. Remove the rotating brush and check to see that it spins freely. If not, you would either need to disassemble it (removing the end caps) to see if removing whatever hair / diebris is stuck between the end caps and the body of the agitator, and if that doesn't cause free rotation, then it means your agitator bearings are likely bad which means you will need to replace the agitator assembly.

Brush won't spin

Yes it could be the belt or the "Bearing Assembly". I had the same problem with a vacuum I got from a friend. 1st I replace the belt, but when I turned the vacuum on I could smell something burning and then the belt broke in half. I then realized the brush roller was stuck in place and would not turn even with force applied. I later found out that 1 of the 2 Bearing Assembly's was worn out, when a Bearing Assembly is worn out the brush roller can not spin. So now it looks like I need to buy a whole new brush roller, unless I can find a place that sells the Bearing Assembly for part number 61445-1,which is a roller brush for a GE Wal Mart vacuum.
