SOURCE: FITTING DETAILS FOR MAKITA PLANER BLADES

It depends on the planer blade set that you are using. If you are using the the 2 sided blades there is a guage that goes with it to set the blade depth before installing. I would strongly recommend that you go to Makitatools.com and type in your model number and download a copy of the owners manual for specific instructions. Let me know if you have any problems finding them

How do you set up planer blades

Planer blades are set in the cutter head, they must be set at the same height and level. The feed table is lowered to set the depth of cut and the output tabled is adjusted to support the work peice after it passes over the blades

How do you adjust the replacement blades in a Makita planer if you don't have to original gauge?

The blades, at thier highest point in rotation, need to be exactly the same height as the larger back plate. Any straight edge laid on the back plate and extending over the blades will let you know if they are set properly. The straight edge should not contact the blades when they are turned (by hand) and there should be as close to no gap between the straight edge and blades as you can get.

I own a Sears Power Planer Model 315.17320. Last week I bought new blades, part no. 17326. To install these blades correctly, I need a Blade Adjustment Plate - P/N 1-606871-01. I have been unsuccessful...

It seems that sears has dropped most of the parts for your planer. I can tell you in 2 minutes. Raise the front of the planer up as far as it will go to get it out of the way, Put the planer in a vise by the handle, take a straight edge, like a rule, or square, Put it on the flat rear of the planer bottom, bring the cutter around with a new knife set in there loose but snug, adjust your leveling screw so that the knife just scrapes the straight edge, doesn't pick it up and doesn't pull it, but scrapes it. do the left side, right side, go back to the left, then tighten it up. It is very important that both knives are set the same, so do the other side that same way. Make sure they are all tightened up. Don't answer the phone, You should be all set, hope this helps.

I have a dw734 planer and need to see a manual on how to reset the screws for leveling the cutter heads

Do you have the blade set gauge that came with the planer? It is a little metal thing that looks like a bottle opener with 3 feet on it? Anyway, you need one, you can buy one at the Dewalt web site or where you got the planer. What it does is set the knives all to the same depth, every time, you can't miss. It rides on the drum, with the blades on the leveling screws, and a wrench in one of them, the jib in place, just snug, not tight, you lift each end of the knife up to just touch the gauge, then snug it up, move to the other end, and do the same thing, then to the middle, then back to make sure it is still on it's mark, If it comes up too far, and grabs the gauge, knock it down with a piece of wood, then move to the next knife, get them set all the same, then torque the jib screws up real tight. Give it a try. Hope this helps.
