Question about Little Giant - 3-MDQX-SC Inline Pump

Open Question

Humming noise, but no turning..

I purchased this inline pump used along with a used tank and sump setup. I brought it home and it was only making a "humming" noise(plugged it in dry for a second to check if working). So, i took it apart and checked the wiring and oiled some parts. plugged it in, again for a quick second, and it worked like a charm. 3 weeks later I am setting up my tank, and plugged it in to verify its in working order, and again only making "humming" noise and no turning. any suggestions?????????

SOURCE: Little Giant stopped working; makes hum noise but wont push wate

Can you take it out of where it is and clean it with vinegar? There may be calcium built up in it. I have one also on my aquarium and when I turn it off sometimes it won't start back up, just humms.. That tells me it's time to clean it.

SOURCE: Hi, I have an inline aquarium pump made by Little

sounds like you need to get that pump off, take it apart and give it a good cleaning in vinegar. I have 135gal reef tank and do mine about once every 6 mos. You need to have cut off valves on each side so you can take it off when you need to. Go to 3reef.com. They can answer any question you've got!

Fuel Pump

A humming noise in the gas tank is usually a failing fuel pump.
The pump uses liquid gasoline to keep it cool and lubricated.

Some time when i start my car the engine will make a humming sound. and some time when i am driving the engine will make the same noise.

Turn off the airconditioning to see if that helps. If it does, then it is likely the airconditioning compressor.

Remove the water pump drive belt. Feel the water pump for free play. If excessive, then replace the pump. You can try spinning it too to see if it's noisy.

WIth the drive belts off, start the car for a few seconds. Twenty seconds tops should do it. Not too long as it will overheat.
Is the noise still present. If not, then check all pump bearings, pulley bearings, tensioner bearings, water pump etc as the noise is one of those things.

that breaker could be the supply to the float inside the tank that sounds the alarm when full, check with the escrow company handling your purchase for full disclosure of the pump and installation, they should have all that if the pump and tank were installed with the correct permits . if they don't, ask for that Info from the seller ,

How high does the pump have to lift, in feet from the water in the sump to the highest point of the piping?
While the pump is running, what is your municipal water pressure near the sump pump?
You saw it work in the store, were those conditions different?

Kitchenaid Whisper Quiet + dishwasher making loud humming noise

Very likely pump motor shaft seal leaks water into bearing casing buildup of rust and consequently noise. I just replaced $112 worth of pump assy and it's back to normal. I would also buy repair manual for $10 on-line to be sure how to disassemble the sump to get to the pump.

Turns on makes weird humming noise

The noise is most likely your drain pump trying to clear water from the sump area. If you remove the bottom screws holding the lower access panel in place, look for the drain pump and a block rubber hose connected to it. I suspect there is something preventing the pump from draining all the water. Remove the clamp holding the hose to the pump (have towels handy as there will be water) and clean out the sump, then put it back together and give the washer another try.

Pump is not working

The reason could be the following.
You used your machine on a mains working with 50 cycles/sec. In U.S. frequency is 60 cycles /sec. this could alter the working of the oscillating piston in the pump. The impedance of the coil is somehow about 20% higher on this mains, reducing so current and power of the pump.
To be quite shure of this, try to fill the pump thoroughly with water.
(Disconnect machine from mains, use Low pressure hose , max 0,5 bar, tied to the inlet -where the water tank feeds-, and fill until water comes out of the open hood)
If now the same humming persists an no pumping effect is noticed, i even will be a bit wiser knowing that 60Hz is not good to 50 Hz pumps.

Pipes humming in house

From your description, I am guessing you are on a deep well with this answer. I think you have an issue with the well pump. To isolate it do this...........

Turn the main supply valve off to the house. Your well tank should have a hose bib on the well tee. Hook a hose up to that and run it outside. Open the valve to the hose until you heard the pressure click on which activates the pump. After the click close the valve and listen for the hum. If it still hums it is the Well and not the piping in your home.

Will follow-up.............
