What happens if I put too much salt in dishwater

Hey Des,

I assume you're referring to the pool rather than dishwater. Adding too much salt won't necessarily do harm instantly. However, to some swimmer, the high salt content can be quite rough on skin and even hair. Aside from swimmer experiences, any masonry around your pool will erode quicker over time due to salt being extremely abrasive by nature. I'd recommend getting a salt tester strip or electronic meter to check your salt.

To add on, if the salt generator is constantly saying to add salt, it's probably time to clean your salt cell also.

You can soak for awhile in Warm water. Change out the water a few times to get rid of any excess salt. You can add a bit extra brown Sugar to this to flavor out any remaining salt. Hope this helps.

This is the code for "Low Salt"... Could mean two things

Getting a code 91 LOW SALT. We have had our pool since June. Took a sample to the local pool shop for them to diagnose and my salt was at 4200ppm. It is still triggering low salt....any suggestions?

Usally if the salt level is above 2000 ppm, it's the electrolytic cell. Did you look inside and verified it did not have any white flaky buildup on the plates??? Do the following if you haven't already and see if the low salt alarm goes away..

  1. Remove the cell unit and cap one end...
  2. Fill the unit with white vinegar and let soak for 24 hrs...
  3. Flush with pressure nozzle until clean.. ( If you can still see some white stuff on the cell plates, soak for and additional 6hrs and flush again)
  4. Re- assemble and set your cycle according to your chlorine level...
Hope this works for you!!!

My pool is definatly oversalted but the pump keeps showing low salt. When tested it shows no chlorine. Is this two diferent problems or all related to the same and how do i fix it?

Low salt alarm also comes from having the electrolytic cells "dirty" of calcium/sodium build up.. Check and soak/clean with vinegar.. Shold solve the low salt alarm.. Hope this helps???

I added three bags of salt and let it dissolve and still get 91 everytime I try to start the salt water system

Have you checked the electrolytic cells? If any white calcium present, you will need to clean with vinegar..See you manual on how to soak...
