10 year old DCS Oven does ignite. Oven ignitor glows but maybe not enough to trigger LP from being introduced?

DCS does NOT ignite, but igniter glows red. When off, it has a whitish appearance.

  • Sal DeAngelo Jul 20, 2013 go here,is this what is in your oven or similar,if so you need a new ignitor if the flame doesn't ignite within 30 to 40 seconds

  • Sal DeAngelo Jul 20, 2013

i can't find your model number to give you the correct part number, you said you have ordered one and i'm sure if you gave them the model number you will get the correct ignitor.let me know how you make out,one thing that might help you is wet a paper towel and wet the screws that hold the ignitor in place,it helps the screws come out easier and mostly it helps them from stripping out on you, good luck and also check the burner tube and make sure there isn't a hole burned in it,when the ignitor glows but the flame doesn't ignite that ignitor gets so hot it burns a hole in the tube, hopefully you don't have this.

  • Scott Aug 03, 2013

Sal. Part just came in and looks to be perfect match. No hole in burner tube so I am good there. One problem, the darn oven light went out just as I was replacing. Strange setup. The cover does not seem to screw off and I think I can see a small metal clip on one side. Any experience with replacing those things? Thank you!

hi scott,i'm trying to find a video on how to replace your ignitor but this is the best i could find, watch it if you can deal listening to this idiot,it shows you the racks just pull out and the floor just lifts out,let me know how you make out, also like i told you before get a wet paper towel and wet the threads on the ignitor screws so they won't strip on you, this really helps, then most ignitors come with ceramic wire nuts, you cut the wires on the ignitor, then connect the new ignitor with the ceramic wire nuts,if you don't have them and the ignitor isn't the same buy the nuts, you don't want to use plastic because from the heat from the oven they can melt, scott any questions let me know if you want send your email and i'll email you my phone number if it's easier

Sal Best I could find is this of electrical diagram: DCS-RD-48 (4GG) (6-GD/GL). Also lights are on back wall. LArge oven has two lights back left and back right near the top of the cavity. The small oven on left has one light on back left towards top of cavity. Just can not figure how to replace a darn bulb. Thanks for video..I shall review. Email is

Just because the ignitor glows it doesn't mean it's good,it takes 3.2 amps for the ignitor to open the gas valve and ignite the flame, usually if the flame doesn't ignite in around 40 seconds the ignitor is bad.also check the burner tube, your model number doesn't come up so i don't know if you have one or two ignitors in this oven but i've found that when the ignitor starts to fail and the customer waits to long to have it looked at the ignitor burns a hole in the tube and then both the ignitor and tube has to be changed, hope this helps and good luck with your oven.

Testimonial: "Thanks Sal; Just happened two days ago and pulled the oven apart. Ordered a new DC Oven Igniter this morning as I thought that was the problem but I wanted to reach out there to see if there was additional advise to confirm my thoughts. You have just done that! Thanks very much! Scott"

the model number you sent to me doesn't show up on any of my parts sites,if you can find the model number on the machine it would help, now the light are you talking about the bulb in the oven?and the cover do you mean the bottom floor of the oven?i don't really do much work on dcs but on wolf ovens you remove the racks, then the rack holders on both sides, remove the screws and the lift the floor up,and it's a lttle tricky to get it out,if you can send the model i'll look it up for you and hopefully together we can figure it out.sorry about not having your answer

My oven won't light.

Does it glow real bright like orange or just red. Because if it's not real bright orange, the ignighter could be bad. The oven will not light if the ignighter is not hot enough.

Dcs 484 oven won't light but ingition bar glows bright

Yep, that's a common problem with these stoves. The igniter has a limited lifespan. You will need to call and order another igniter and probably have someone install it.

I have a frigidaire gas stove model #FGF337AWJ.

I went through that once and believe it or not it was the ignitor. Instead of a thermocouple these new ovens use the amount of current going through the ignitor to prove the flame. Seems like after it gets ot a certain temperature the amps drop off enough to cut out the flame and then it will try to recycle. If it is not that it would be the thermostat but they very seldom go bad. I would reolace the ignitor first I think it will solve your problem.

Gas oven ignites only intermittent

I assume you are saying the oven will not light but you can see the igniter glowing....if this is the case you will still need to replace the igniter, igniters need to be drawing a certain amperage before the will open the gas safety valve. in this case your igniter is glowing unevenly orange and is old - it is not pulling enough amps to open the valve. Replace it and you should be good to go If you have any other questions please feel free to comment. Good Luck!!! Mike

The oven won't light. I've took off the ignitor

Hello, The igniter may look like it is in good shape but it could have a hairline crack or it could just be worn. The igniter should glow a brillient yellow that you would find hard to look at...If it is glowing with a hint of orange it needs to be replaced. Igniters are very fragile parts and could last a couple of years or 15 years. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment. Good Luck!!! Mike

Oven will not ignite while glow ignitor is on...

The ignitor has to draw enough current to open the gas valve. The cheapest way is to just replace the ignitor and that will fix it 9 out of 10 times.

New igniter, still won't work

Turn on oven. Ignitor should begin to glow. (if no glow after 30 seconds or so, check to make sure you have 120 volts to ignitor) Observe amperage draw using a clamp on amp meter. When amperage reaches 3.2 to 3.6 (for square syle ignitors) the oven safety valve should open, releasing gas and lighting the burner when the gas hits the red hot ignitor. For broiler, just substitute the word broiler for oven. Old ignitors get " weak " and may not draw enough amperage to allow safety valve to open. Also, voltage will affect the amperage draw, as lower voltage = lower amp draw.

Kenmore gas (propane) range Model #119.7488810 18-20 years old

you have a bad oven/bake ignitor, althoough you see ther glow, its not "hot" enough to allow gas flow or ignition, very common issue, 2 screws and 2 wires, probably about $75, service company gets min $225..

Oven does not heat but broiler does

First thing to suspect would be a weak igniter....see if the amp draw while the igniter is glowing matches the amp rating of the gas valve, the value will be on the side of the valve, if the amp draw of the igniter is lower than the rating of the valve you would need to replace the glow coil/igniter.
