Copy following link to identify timer and download manual:
http://waterheatertimer.org/UPM-timers-and-manuals.html#ETW
ETW can be used to replace 3-way switch.
3-way switching has 2 switches. Timer can replace one switch or the other switch, but not both.
The remaining 3-way switch must be rewired as shown in manual. What the remaining 3-way switch does is reverse timer programming, so programmed ON times become OFF times, and OFF times become ON times.

SOURCE: How do we set the time to stop on a UPM ETW350? I

In wall timers and manuals are shown on following link.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Programmable.html#ETW

ETW350 manual:
http://waterheatertimer.org/UPM-etw350.pdf

Select from 3 different functions:
1) 24-hour Programmable
2) Countdown timer function so lights turn off after period of time
3) Random function so lights turn on randomly and house looks lived-in

I am not going to write out the steps because they show in the manual.
But a specific part of the manual might be confusing.
So add a comment and I will help until we will get the timer working.

Manuals for all UPM timers are missing key explanations, despite the lengthy manual.
I think there are 3 things to look for:
1) Program1 is ON and program2 is OFF and program3 is ON etc.
2) When setting days, be sure that ON and OFF are set for same days so there are no conflicting programs.
3) Timer gives three modes: Countdown and Random and Programming. Countdown is for a bath fan when you want to turn on fan with push of button and have timer turn off fan automatically after the countdown expires. Do not use countdown or random functions when you want timer to perform ordinary on-off functions.

Want to know how to set the times "on" "off". Timer is a bit older. Front of the timer has "set' "cd" rnd."

1) Open following links to identify same-similar timer, and download possible manual:

How do you set upm model dt 420 electronic timer

Open UPM DT420 manual on following link:
http://waterheatertimer.org/UPM-timers-and-manuals.html#DT420

The manual is longer than allowed for free answer and has important illustrations and options.
Please read the manual in addition to instructions given below.

Copied directly from the manual:
1) Select AUTO using the slide switch
2) Select the desired On-period (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 hours) using the dial switch
3) For continuous Dusk to Dawn operation, Select CONTINUOUS using the dial switch.
Timer turns ON automatically at dusk and turns off according to how you set 1 2 and 3.
If timer does not operate, or if it turns on at odd times, then it is broken.

Note: UPM manuals normally leave out important information, but this particular instruction matches closely with similar products and is probably accurate.

Can the GE 15086 digital timer be wired to work on lights operated by two 3-way switches? The package indicates it is a single pole switch and needs a neutral wire. If it can be used, what happens with...

GE 15086 7-day programmable timer will not work for 3-way switching.
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html#15086
It is possible to wire GE timer in place of a 3-way if you tape the other switch in one position.
Add a comment if you want help with that wiring.

There are several 7-day programmable timers that can be wired for 3-way. Each of these is wired slightly differently, and you have to look at wiring diagrams carefully. But they are completely do-able.

I am having a problem setting the UPM ETW350 timer, can't seem to have it go off at a certain time. What do I do about the countdown? IS that what I press to go to the time to shut it off?

I also am having trouble with this timer. I've got the program set for when I want it to go on but can't figure out how to put in the time I want it to stop. I don't understand where the countdown timer...

ETW350 is programmable timer that offers 3 different timer
functions: Program, countdown and random.
Timer has 20 different settings.
UPM site is not available recently, but UPM timers are still being sold.

Operation manual is not very clear how to program ON and OFF times.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/UPM-etw350.pdf

That being said, usually with programmable timers, you program ON time. And then program OFF time.

I do not own this timer so I can't test ETW350 like I've tested other timers.
I think the way this timer works, is program1 is ON.
And program2 is OFF.
Again, manual is not CLEAR about ON and OFF times.

Following instructions assume timer is wired correctly, timer is set for current time, and you want to set 'timer' function and not 'random' function.
Here's how to set program1.
Press arrow buttons until 1 shows in display. This is program1.
Press Set button.
Select day for program1 ON using arrow keys
Press Set button.
Select hour for program1 ON using arrow keys.
Press Set button.
Select minute for program1 ON using arrow keys.
Press Set button.
Use arrow keys until 2 appears on display. This is program2.
I believe program2 is for OFF times.
Set program2 using same steps above.
Be careful to match ON and OFF days ... for example ON 7pm Monday and OFF 9pm Friday will keep lights on from Mon through FRI.
Conflicts in programming will cause timer not to work. For example program1 ON 7pm Monday, program2 OFF 9pm Monday ... but programs3-4 say opposite times.
Make a schedule of program times before starting to avoid conflicts.
Try steps above and test fire that timer, and then add a comment.

I have two 110V lines (two wire) coming into a box. I have 2 loads out (two wire). 1 load is always on and one is on a switch. All four whites are wire-nutted together. How do I incorporate this timer...

If I understand this correctly, you a have a 120 volt supply cable consisting of a black and white insulated wire. You have two cables that go out of the box - each of those cables has a black and white insulated wires as well. One of those load cables is to remain on all the time, the other is to be controlled by this switch.

You didn't provide a model number for your switch - and there are several made. If yours is the ETW350, or similar; it has a BLUE load wire, a WHITE neutral wire, a BLACK supply wire and a GREEN ground wire.

Connections are as follows. UPM GREEN wire connects to ground (that should be the the other bare or green insulated wires in the box). The UPM BLACK will connect to the other BLACK "supply wire" that is currently connected to the other BLACK "always on" load wire. The UPM BLUE connects to the BLACK load wire that is to be switched on and off. Lastly, the UPM WHITE wire will connect to the other WHITE wires that are currently all connected together.

If yours is not this model - I have no way of knowing how to help you wire it with any reasonable certainty. If you are unsure of the the model or are unable to locate the model info or manual, please call a licensed electrician to perform this work for you. Be safe, be smart.

I hope this helps & good luck!
