Question about Apple iBook Laptop G4 iBook 1.33GHz Processor 1GB 40GB 12.1 1024x768 Display Combo Drive WiFi 56K Modem 10/100 Ethernet Bluetooth OS X 10.5 installed
I recently bought this computer and it was working fine until I noticed that it had not been updated since 2008. I continued to update it. I downloaded the update and it installed but it went to a gray screen with a loading symbol. I thought it was just loading and thought nothing of it. it has been 2 days now and it is still on this screen.
The last Mac OS X version that is compatible with a G4 iBook - or any PowerPC computer - was 10.5.8 (Leopard). The oldest Mac OS X that can interact with the Apple App Store is 10.6.8, so that iBook is essentially unable to receive further updates. If you don't have a backup or disk to restore from, you will need to erase the disk and re-install the OS from a retail version of Leopard, or the original system disk.
A good online resource for older and obsolete Apple devices is Low End Mac . This article in particular will get you connected with support for your machine: Quick Overview of G4 iBooks

If you have another MAC computer available, you can create a USB key to solve this problem:
If not, I'm afraid you will have to turn to an authorized apple service center. They will do the repair for you.

You need to have bought your computer in mid June or so, after the 11th of the month. Go to the up to date place on Apple's website and see if you qualify if you dont it will be 20 dollars to purchase from the Apple Store.
