Question about Refrigerators

Open Question

I have a samsung rs261mdwp refrigerator side by side refrigeraor. The freeer and refrigerator section are both warm. The feezer section not cold enough to make ice. Repair person indicated needed a fan motor but did not check fan motor only checked circuit board by looking at it. What could be causing the problem. At one time the refrigerator would stop cooling and then start cooling 3 or 4 days later.

SOURCE: Problem with fresh food side of my refrigerator freezer

The bulbs dim glow is a worry, sounds like not enough voltage is getting there. If you are comfortable with a multimeter, check what the voltage is at the bulb socket. If you have a low voltage issue due to say the transformer not working properly then the fan will also have low voltage (or no voltage). No power, no fan, no cooling. I'd suspect there are voltage issues with that transformer, especially since it's a 240 VAC model. A transformer typically steps down the 240 volts to 120 volts for light bulbs and maybe even the fans (or the whole refer). The repair man may be correct in that the transformer is built in to a circuit board but it COULD be a stand alone transformer.

Neither refrigerator or freeer is very cold despite moving controls to coldest setting. Notice some frosting on inside of freeer on back part way down.

The defrost system has failed. Most likely a bad heater and thermostat behind the freezer wall panel.
Both controls should be set to the mid-range.
If the heater and thermostat are good then the main control board is bad.

Refrigerator side not cooling, but feezer is still freezing

DEFROST HEATERS IN THE FREEZER. IF THERE IS FROST ON THE BACK WALL INSIDE THE LOWER AREA OF THE FREEZER SECTION. YOU THEN HAVE A DEFROST PROBLEM. THE HEATER IS THE MOST COMMON. REMOVE THAT PANEL AND DEFROST WITH HAIR DRYER. THIS FROST IS BLOCKING THE AIR FLOW TO THE REF. SIDE. AFTER THIS IT WILL WORK FOR 10-21 DAYS WITH OUT REPLACING THE DEFROST HEATER. 95 PERCENT CHANCE. JUST REPLACE THE HEATER SOON AFTER DEFROSTING SO YOU DONOT HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN.
