Question about Canon DR-2580C Path-Through Scanner

1 Answer

Communication problem? I've been using the scanner for quite a while now to scan different documents into Omnipage 15.0. At first I used it wil 14.0, and it was alright for a while. After a while though the program would work fine, but when I tried to scan in anything that wasn't 8.5" * 11", it completely froze the program. I installed Omnipage 15.0, and haven't had a problem until now. Once again, trying to scan anything other than that one page type freezes Omnipage completely. It reports that there is an error with the scanner, although that freezes once on screen as well. I believe the problem is some sort of communication between the device and the program, as the scanner still works with other programs, and the program works with other scanners. However, I need to use the scanner with Omnipage. I have tried uninstalling both the printer and the program, I've tried updating drivers, etc. Nothing works. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Communication problem?

Dear CrysC,

I had the same problem with my HP Officejet J5780. I just got it to work with a different paper size.

Don't ask me why this worked, but it did, so I guess that's all that matters.

In Omnipage, I went under the "Tools" menu and clicked on "Options." I then clicked on the tab, "Scanner." I changed the paper size to what I wanted (A 4). I then clicked on "Setup." Despite its recommendations not to do so, I reinstalled my scanner.

After the reinstall, it is now scanning the new paper size.

I hope that I don't have to do this everytime I scan a new paper size...

Good luck!

Can the canoscan lide 70 scan documents to work so they can be edited? Is so how

Yes, but you have to use a special program called an "OCR" (Optical Character Recognizer) which will "read" the document from the scan. A scanner only produces a picture of a document, and it requries special software to "read" that image and make it editable.
The LIDE 70 comes with OMNIPAGE SE (special edition) which will work for simple documents. For more complex documents, you may need to buy the full edition of OMNIPAGE or another OCR package like FineReader. It is also built in fto software like OneNote and Evernote.
The top 5 free OCR tools are here:

Hello I have recently purchased a second-hand CanoScan LiDE 25 scanner and it was accompanied by OmniPage SE Software. The reason for this purchase was to scan research papers for a friend. My experience...

Don't use the OmniPage software for scanning. OmniPage is an OCR (optical character recognition) program and is trying to convert the scan into a document compatible with a text editor (such as Microsoft Word). Use a graphics editing program, and use the option to 'Import' or 'Acquire' an image. Make sure that the LiDE 25 is specified as the scanner, and you should be linked to the scanner interface. Now when the scan is complete, it will be transferred to the graphics editor as an image, not a document.

How to scan in text formate in ricoh2030

You need an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program such as Textbridge or Omnipage ect. The program should use your scanner to scan and then read the page(s) and save as text.

I want to save scanned document as a .doc using CanoScan 8400F

Scanners only see millions of dots. Unless it has software to convert a picture into a document, all documents are seen by scanners as pictures made of of millions of dots. Software is available to convert it to a Microsoft Doc format but it is very expensive.

Impossible to scan additional pages without starting all over

The sole message is "Scanner error"? ... Odd.

I'm not sure what version of OmniPage you're working with. This manual's probably in the ballpark:

It looks like they suggest a different route, a different workflow process -- scan in all your images at once, then handle processing in a batch. I think you do some processing, then try to get the next image. This may have nothing at all to do with your "scanner error," but it's worth a try (and if/when you get the error resolved, this is a smarter way to use your time).

Before you go down that road, though, look for some updates. Some errors are often fixed with updates, and it's worth a try.

Look for updates to OmniPage. I believe you can look through the program itself -- was it Help: Update? You can also look here:

There may also be a somewhat newer driver for your scanner; I don't know; the only drivers there are about a year old. The link:
Scroll down a bit, click on the Drivers and downloads page.

Please please please let me know if this doesn't work for you. And if it doesn't, if you can write down the exact error message, we can try to find out some more answers. If you just bought it, you may also be eligible for free tech support from Canon and/or OmniPage; I don't know. They'll tell you to follow these same steps as well, I'm sure. =)

Have you installed OmniPage? What OS are you using? Which scanner did you have previously? Are you able to OCR a document through OmniPage?
