SOURCE: My Majestic DVR36RN gas-log fireplace

Majestic DVR36RN: Here's what you need to do: Verify gas line is open. (You said you already have done that). Next turn the switch to pilot (you said you did that too). Make sure wall switch is on also. Now press and hold the pilot switch and hit the ignitor. Once it lights you need to continue to hold the pilot switch for roughly 1 minute. Release the knob and the flame should stay lighted. Now, turn the knob to on. You should be all set now.

It has a panel hidden under the white fiber hearth bricks at the front bottom of the unit. you need to clean the lava rock off of them, pull both of them up, and then you will see the hidden linear cover that allows you to access the valve and light.

I assume you have a Majestic Wood Burning fireplace. If that's the case, you have a problem. The first is that Majestic, as such is no longer in business. The second is, if the fireplace is almost 20 years old, they don't make that firebox any longer.

However, since you have a refractory concrete liner, you may can repair it, if the crack is no wider than the thickness of a Dime. There is a high temp mortar that you can purchase from Lowe's or Ace Hardware that comes in a tube. Do not remove the cracked panel from the firebox. Simply clean any loose material from the crack with a tooth brush, being careful not to enlarge the crack. Apply the mortar as directed and it allow it to fully cure before setting another fire. It would also help to clean any debris and ash from the interior of the firebox, before attempting to make the repair. A shop vac equipped with a dust bag works great. It will keep all the dust in the vacuum bag and not blow it throughout the house. You can purchase these from Lowe's or Home Depot. Just match the bag size to gallon size of your shop vac.

If the crack is wider than the thickness of a dime, sadly you're out of luck. Leave the cracked panel in place and consider installing a vent-free or partially vented gas log set. They are rated as supplemental gas heating appliance with no fuss muss or dust to deal with.

Hope this helps solve your problem

usually 1 panel comes off and under it are the screws. look with a good lite up and toward the front from behind the screen or door assy. usually these first screws are located there and are probably black.

My Majestic gas fireplace pilot stays lit. But the burner does not light when heat is called for.

Check a safety device called thermopile which the two wires connected to the unit needs to be around 500mV to open gas. This part is between 35-50$ If that is not the problem, you may need to replace unit gas valve.

Fireplace remote control no longer works correctly

To re-sync your Honeywell 8220 transmitter to the valve: Turn the Local/Remote switch on your valve to Local. Then switch it back to Remote. Within 10 seconds of switching it to Remote, you need to press the Flame button on your transmitter. This will re-sync your transmitter to the receiver in the valve. Replacement transmitters and valves are no longer available for this system, they were discontinued by Honeywell and they are completely out of stock. Monessen Hearth Systems (now owns Majestic, Vermont, etc) has a retrofit kit with a new valve, pilot assy, and remote for these old RF units. (expensive, but cheaper than a new fireplace). FYI, aftermarket remotes are NOT compatible with this Honeywell system.

GAS FIREPLACE

Yes, hopefully changing the thermocouple (skinny sensor) or thermopile(fat sensor) would do the trick.
Start with these fairly inexpensive repairs first.
Unfortunately if the honeywell valve is bad a new one can be expensive.
Also it is hard to order parts from Majestic, they just went bankrupt, not to long ago and Martin is taking them over. You might look for your valves model# and check online for other suppliers of that model# or ask for a compatible Direct Vent gas valve that's not as problematic. (eBay and HVAC dealers, etc.)
FYI:
You said it's been about 5 years, you might decide it's less of a hassle to have new gas fireplace installed. Martin and Empire are probably two of the best, with 5 year parts and labor warrantys.
Hope you find some success in your endeavor.
