Question about Lionel 1122 Right Hand O27 Remote Control Track Switch
I want to supply constant 14 volts from transformer to 1122 switch. How is the connection made and what if any modifications must be made to switch wiring itself? Thanks. Steveflash

SOURCE: Lionel train power issue
Answer a number of questions:
Is the tranformer power adequate for the train and is it a working tranformer?
Will the train run by connecting the wires directly to the two points of the train (wheels and center rail connector)?
Are the tracks new?
Is the lockon new?

SOURCE: Lionel trains a/c transformer is
You are hearing the primary hum but the secondary is either burnt out or there is a fuse that is blown...
Check for fuses and/or circuit breaker...
Also you can OHM out the coils to see if you get continuity through each coil...coil open equals no good...

first you need to test the actual transformer's input then the outputs on primary and secondary winding. Be careful because you can get a schok. If you do not know what you are doing with electricity and don't understand how to test transformers then you should consult an electronic service center to help with this procedure.
Here is a guide to test transformers. http://www.infobarrel.com/How_to_Test_DC_Voltage_Using_a_Multimeter
Since this is a train control there is a potentiometer in it (variable resistor) you will want to check that as well.
In the end the best and cheapest route is look for a replacement one.

You should be able to. The Lionel transformers all put out AC power, not DC and many Marx and American Flyer transformers will work too. The real question is total amount of power being drawn and whether or not you have the wattage to match your engine and accessories. With the CW-80 though, it should put out plenty. I run my pre-war 1666E engine pulling a full compliment of metal cars with no problems using a CW-80.
