SOURCE: Replaced my 5-year old 3-ton 12 SEER Goodman outside condensing unit with an older 3-ton RUDD condensing unit because of lack of funds. Now the compressor has gone out on the RUDD. Is it better to rep

A new unit will be 13+ seer unless you can find someone that has replaced a compressor or has one left over from pre 2006 stock. Our wise Government with all its resources decided that we aren't smart enough to turn off the lights to save energy, so they chose to end the med and low price lines. And the same bunch of smart ones decided that now R22 because of its chlorien content being bad for the air (5% of what R12 was) so we have R410A and others that no one knows how much cancer or daMAGE THEY WILL DO OVER TIME. So now if you replace your AC unit out side with a new one be sure its compatable with the refrigerant inside and beware soem manufacturers wont stand up to full warranty if you dont buy an indoor coil and rerplace it too.

We get what we deserve in Washington DC and if our guy didnt support this stuf too many other folks guys did. We just dont talk about it enough. AND WE SHOULD. But then again you like me are probably RITCH. So we have to give up our wealth to the government so they can redistribute it and buy more votes. And we can stay working too much to talk about it.

Just burns my back side like a 4 foot flame.

Read tween the politics and you'll get my recomendation.

Buy your self a compressor and get someone qualified to install it or see if the old goodman one will interchange easily.

SOURCE: lennox air unit not blowing cold air

your fan motor outside is going bad, have a service company change it out for you.

the motor stopped working and that overheated the compressor shutting it down on thermal cutout, and it will only come on once it cools down

What is the tonnage on an Intertherm S3RC-0336K.

Hello, the tonnage on this unit is a 3 ton unit. Your model number tells you. The 036 is the tonnage. There are 12,000 btu's per ton, so 36 divided by 3 =12 or in this case 12,000 btu's.

I JUST NEED TO KNOW WHAT MY TONNAGE IS.

Look for your model number on your condensor, outdoor unit. Your tonnage will be towards the end of it and divisable by 6. I.E. 36=3tons or 42=3.5tons. Ac units are messured by the half ton. If you have a split system I.E. heater inside and ac outside your system will be 1 - 5 tons. If this doesn't help post your model and serial number. I can then give you tonnage, age, so forth.

Hi there I have a model number for my carrier a/c unit. I need to find out the tonnage. 38ykc042300 Please any help I will be very greatful.

This is a 3 and 1/2 ton unit.
The 042 in the model number is the tonnage of your carrier unit.
AC tonnage is based on 12,000 btu per ton.
12,000.....1 ton
18,000.....1 and 1/2 ton
24,000.....2 ton
30,000.....2 and 1/2 ton
36,000.....3 ton
42,000.....3 and 1/2 ton
48,000.....4 ton
60,000.....5 ton.
There is no 4 and 1/2 ton unit.

Can I mix brands/tons when installing AC unit to existing coils?

First off - the 'rule of thumb' is 600' per ton of Air Conditioning. In other words your old unit is a 2 ton unit. So - 2 tons x 600' = 1200'. As you can see if you install the 2.5 ton unit - you will be installing a AC that 'could' cool a 1500 sq ft house (2.5 x 600' =1500 sq ft.). Slightly more than what you need; and the 3.5 ton unit is 'way to big,' (3.5 x 600' = 2100 sq ft.).

Note: fyi - many in the AC business will sometimes refer to tonnage in btu's, i.e. 1 ton = 12000 btu - hence a '2 ton unit' can also be referred to as a 24000 btu unit and vice versa.

So... from the above - you can easily see that "2 tons" of Air conditioning is what is required to cool the 'average' home of 1100 sq ft. "roughly speaking."

Note: it is always best to have a professional 'size' your cooling/heating needs.

One of your questions was could you 'mix tonnage?'

The answer is 'usually you don't mix the tonnage of your outside/inside units.' However, professionals sometimes do (mix the tonnage) in certain situations, and installing a 2.5 ton outside unit with an existing 2 ton inside unit is often done, however, there are some 'tech issues' here and - I would "again" recommend that you call a Service Tech to help you with the sizing/mixing of your cooling/heating needs.

hope this has helped

I have a Lennox CH23.51 series coil unit using R22 freon installed one year ago. Compressor is 9 years old. Down the road when replacing compressor (R410A ), will CH23.51 unit be compatible after changing...

This evaporator core is R-22 / R-410A compatible. The Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV) is for R-22. If retrofitting to R-410A, a new TXV metering device would be required, but the evap. core itself could be re-used (as long as you stick with the same Tonnage you have now). If upgrading to a higher tonnage system (like going from 4-Ton to 5-Ton), then you would need a totally new evaporator core.

Can't find the tonnage on a mdl. 48G6-042090301

Usually the date plate is mounted on the A/C unit near the power connection. Sometimes you have to remove the access plate for the electrical connection to view the data plate and othe information about the unit.

Just be sure you kill the power to the A/C before you go opening up the access cover to prevent getting bit by the 220V-AC voltage inside!

Hope this helps and best regards!
