SOURCE: Stuck CD cassette

Dear needhelp5246,
What you need is a screw driver not a sledgehammer. Open the bottom plate of the system and eject the cd magazine manually. Hope this solve your problem.

SOURCE: CD drawer will not open or close

Hi, The CD drawer mechanism needs a new belt. They have a motor that drives the tray mechanism, and there's a small belt that drives the main gear so that pushing the drawer in gently to close it doesn't damage anything. However, once that belt breaks/wears out, the drawer will stay in whatever position it was last in.

SOURCE: Question

I am 99% certain that it will only work with 'audio' discs. This is the case with my Philips CDR-796 and as far as I am aware applies to all consumer CD recorders.

Hope this helps

I have an old SHARP mini component systen and everything works except the CD player. It says ER CD-10

Laser assembly is probably ng and that part of unit needs replacement if it is not a proprietary design. If so, forget it since it will not be cost effective.

ACOUSTIC 1 CD unit will not play certain CD's

Hi Marva,
Here are the three possible problems according to your description in order of probability. One is that the laser needs cleaning. Two is that the laser is getting weak. Three is that the motor is not spinning the cd up to speed fast enough so that the table of contents can be read. The thing to try first is to take the unit apart with the power disconnected and clean the laser lens. A cotton swab dabbed with Windex usually works great. If that was not the problem, look at the motor spinning your cd. If there are any tiny openings in the motor put a drop of 3 in 1 oil in the opening and let it sit for awhile. The third of course involves replacing the laser assembly. Good luck. - Joe.

It plays the same section of the CD over & over...goes back & starts again...allCDs same... unit is 7 years old

In order for an entire CD to play, the optics assembly must travel toward the exterior of the disk. From your description, something is preventing this from happening and the CD player is continuing to play in a restricted area. If the model is CDP-CD355, the optics assembly is on its side. This unit needs service and should not be opened by a homeowner. This is not a unit I would recommend for a DIY repair. This repair is not likely to require parts, but could. It may only need a cleaning and re-lube of the sled rail assembly.

in the unit there are two things that you will have to check
1) one is the lens which reads the cd in the unit.
2) second is the gear that moves up and down to the tape/cd.
if the lens is not getting adjusted after you turn it on/off then this problem happens also if the gear is not moving properly then also same problem occurs.if the gears are getting blocked then also this you mentioned it works that means the unit is not faulty but there is minor problem in lens or gear assembly just get it resetted by checking it.also local electronic repair shop can realign the unit.the unit need proper servicing to get it work properly.
This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya.

I have an old Sharp CD-C811W mini hi fi system which I took apart to try to clean the lazer head. Since putting it back together the CD's keep skipping - what did I do wrong - help please

You've probably done nothing wrong: presumably there were symptoms which initially prompted you to open the unit up to attend to the head. It's possible that you've left a smear on the laser lens or some grot on the head guide rails, but CD/DVD lasers do not last forever and as your unit is an old (and cheaply built) unit the laser head unit has probably worn out.

If you can find out the exact CD drive assembly fitted to your mini hi-fi then if you're lucky you may find a replacement head assembly (Earth yourself, unclip the guide rails, lift/slide the ribbon cable clamps and remove the assembly, reassemble in reverse with an imperceptible smear of HMP grease on the guide rails).

Unfortunately you're highly unlikely to find an original or even a compatible laser head assembly simply due to the extremely short production cycles of these items due to constant improvements in design. Good, used, CD mini hi-fi's are ten a penny so if you can't get the part for less than £15 then bin it and replace the entire CD system.

If you need it a service manual for your model is at the address below. Please return the favour by rating my answer; I only regret that I could not give you a more positive outcome.

Cd stuck, discread on display

If you can access the in-line fuse on the constant 12+ volt lead that powers the units memory. Remove that fuse and wait 5 min. then replace it. This should reset the unit, allowing you to eject the CD.
Note: If the anti-theft code has been enabled, you will need to input that code in order to operate the unit.
If the CD still does not eject, it may be jammed/binded up. thus requiring dis-assembly.
Good luck...

Nope I'm afraid that when this happens, the slider motor is bad, the spindle motor is bad, or the laser pick-up assembly needs to be replaced. You can replace this unit for about 20 bucks. A laser pickup for this unit will cost about 25 to 35 bucks + labor!. See mt point? Good Luck
