Problem for Sony Camcorders

The camera powers on, the lens is turning when I aim it at objects of different distances, as if it's focusing on those objects. When looking through the eyepiece or connecting the video out RCA to a TV, all that's visible is a white screen. Recording to the tape and playing back produces the same result.
