Stelrad ideal mexico super cf100 - electrical problem

A couple of days ago, the power to the kitchen sockets tripped. I reset it but could not find the cause. Yesterday my wife commented that there was no hot water. I noted that the controller for the boiler was off and would not turn on. The socket fuse had blown so I replaced it and started the controller, set the clock and set it for hot water at the usual time. Today, she said, there's no hot water again. The socket fuse had gone again, so I replaced it, set the time and switched the hot water to ON. There was an immediate audible pop and the controller went off again, it had also tripped the kitchen circuit. It's a Stelrad Ideal Mexico Super CF100 dating from around 1990.

There are a couple of things that can be causing your problem. 1. The controller is bad which is tripping the breaker. 2. The breaker needs to be checked or replaced. 3. circuit overload by to many appliances. In any event you will need qualified technicians to do repair. My guess is to start with the controller and have it checked because of its age. After this is done get an electrician if necessary. The kitchen circuit may be a separate issue or part of the problem. If your kitchen or an appliance in it like a stove, fridge or microwave is on the same circuit this will cause a possible overload and trip the breaker. If your kitchen is on a separate circuit and you added another appliance this could cause an overload if in use at the same time.

5 years is about the lifespan for tankless.
You might have shorted element. That would explain cooler water and tripping reset.
Test element: power is off, disconnect wires from element; ohms = voltage squared divided by watt rating of element

Trying to look that unit up. I believe it is obsolete. IF there is an electric motor on this unit, I would check that first. Motors are the biggest consumers of electricity and they have moving parts. If there are no motors then you need to check any electric ignitors that are present. They step voltage up and can short out. This means that you should have some way to test things. Using something like a meter is good

The water heater (Reliance Elec 501) does not turn on, This happened on the same day that our whole apartment lost power due to tripped main switch.n I reset main but water heater does not respond,...

Two-element water heater is 240Volts.
No hot water means: ECO reset button tripped, upper element bad, upper thermostat bad, or 240Volts is not reaching water heater.
Circuit breaker can be delivering power on one leg of the 240V circuit, so water heater appears to have electricity but is only receiving 120V.
Test for 240volts across top two screws on upper thermostat.
Look for loose wires and burned connections.
Push in reset button real hard.
Replace both upper and lower thermostats.
Remove wires and test upper element for continuity.

Ge electric water heater. 3 years old. keep tripping reset. both elements show 13 ohms, with no gronding out condition. help!

Have you replaced the thermostat they will short out and keep tripping to they go bad. Check the ends of the elements also for any bad places. Ran along this a few times and it ends up being a bad thermostat causing it to trip. You will reset it and it may last a day or more and keep resetting it and eventually it will short out or burnt out. So please check it out and this helps you.

All the combis I've come across merely fail to fire if the pressure is not up. not only do they not fire, nothing else works including the pump and in any event the pump should not overheat just on low pressure.
water loss - try turning off the valves on the flow & return pipes [3/4 inch ones] 1 valve per pipe . This will isolate the rest of the system - rads etc Note pressure over a time period. In this mode the hot water circuit will still work but do NOT use the heating circuit
1/2 bar over 2 days is not serious but it should be found
Once you have either mended the leak in the rest of the system or found there is not one, insist on a replacement boiler
In any event having looked at the reasons given for the fuse blowing, I would definitely get a replacement.
These problems should not happen on a new boiler
I list Worcester.-Ariston-GlowWorm-Ideal- and many others who would confirm this
