Question about Water Heaters
A couple of days ago, the power to the kitchen sockets tripped. I reset it but could not find the cause. Yesterday my wife commented that there was no hot water. I noted that the controller for the boiler was off and would not turn on. The socket fuse had blown so I replaced it and started the controller, set the clock and set it for hot water at the usual time. Today, she said, there's no hot water again. The socket fuse had gone again, so I replaced it, set the time and switched the hot water to ON. There was an immediate audible pop and the controller went off again, it had also tripped the kitchen circuit. It's a Stelrad Ideal Mexico Super CF100 dating from around 1990.
There are a couple of things that can be causing your problem. 1. The controller is bad which is tripping the breaker. 2. The breaker needs to be checked or replaced. 3. circuit overload by to many appliances. In any event you will need qualified technicians to do repair. My guess is to start with the controller and have it checked because of its age. After this is done get an electrician if necessary. The kitchen circuit may be a separate issue or part of the problem. If your kitchen or an appliance in it like a stove, fridge or microwave is on the same circuit this will cause a possible overload and trip the breaker. If your kitchen is on a separate circuit and you added another appliance this could cause an overload if in use at the same time.
