There's a fuel pump mounted on the motor that's probably weak.

SOURCE: I have a lx 255 john deere wont start

You have a defective ignation coil. When the engine gets hot, the winding in the coil opens and the engine stops. After it cools down, it will again make contact and start again. If you don't know where the coil is, follow the wire from the spark plug. The spark plug wire is attached to the coil from the factory. It's easy to replace with a 1/4 inch socket set. Set the magnet to coil gap with a standard business card.

SOURCE: John Deere Gx75, kawasaki 9hp motor- oil in carb!

A very common problem with the GX series with Kawasaki engines. The carburetor 'inlet needle' sticks open and fills the crankcase with fuel. When checking the oil, it can be difficult to see the gasoline and the level appears to be OK. Remove the dipstick and smell the oil, you may detect a gasoline smell. Also, drain the oil, and you may find much more fluid than you expect.
The solution on newer mowers was to install an 'in-line' shut-off valve to keep the fuel from syphoning into the carburetor. The inlet needle and seat in the carburetor is NOT replaceable, so a new carburetor is the ultimate solution, but VERY expensive. Installing and using an in-line shut-off valve is more affordable.
Also, this situation is common when machine is transported on a trailer, as the bouncing causes the needle/seat to leak. When transporting, always turn off the fuel supply to the carburetor.

I have a John Deere riding mower LA 110 automatic. When I engage it to cut grass, it just dies like a safety measure. What could be causing this? Happen while in the middle of cutting the lawn.

how thick/tall is the grass ?
when was it last serviced ?

if dying or shutting down while operating
could be an electrical / safety kill switch connection
or engine/ governor spark issue

before next startup do a visual
have a look to see everything is free and working under the cutting platform

Our John Deere 110 is killing our grass in short stripes that look like equal signs

sounds like a fuel leak from the tank to the caburetor. Your mower has a fuel pump that pumps the fuel from the tank to the carburetor and when you are running the mower the fuel is leaking out the fuel line onto the grass. Check the fuel lines for cracks or splitting and replace it with fuel line from a lawn mower shop.

Where should I start in trouble shooting my LA 115 model lawn tractor if it just won't crank. I tried to jump start it with jumper cables, but that didn't work ?

If the starter motor is actually turning the engine then the first thing to do is check the spark plug to see if you are actually getting a spark. If there is a spark, then move on to the fuel system to eliminate restrictions in the flow. The problem could be due to a dirty fuel filter, faulty fuel pump or solenoid fuel valve, no voltage on valve or dirt in the float bowl or a blocked float valve.
Have a look at these tips for troubleshooting lawnmower starting problems. They apply to tractors also:

My john deere 425 wont start cranks motor spins will run a few sec with starting fluid then dies

Check your fuel filter and see if it's clogged. You might be able to blow it out with an air hose if it is.
