Water not spraying on dishes to clean them

the device in the bottom of my Maytag that sprays the water on the dishes and spreads the soap onto the dishes to clean them is no longer spinning automatically. The soap is not being spread over the dishes as the water does not spray up and reach the dispenser so the dishes are not being cleaned and the soap just runs down the door of the dishwasher since the dispenser does open but there is no concentrated spray of water to disperse it over the dishes. Needless to say the dishes are not being cleaned.
