An E805 code has to do with the failure of one of the many fans within the copier. If there is not a dash with four numbers after the 805 code on the display, it is one of two fans - FM1 the transport bed fan or FM9 - the reversing fan just below the fuser assy. There are several checks that can be done but a too lengthy to be described. A tech maybe the best answer depending on your mechanical ability.

I have had a similar issue before where I was unable to utilize the HP software for scanning. Have you added any software recently or run any updates on software?
I had to utilize msconfig to disable services so that I could re-enable the services one by one to see what was causing the error.
To do this you will need to click on Start-Run and type msconfig then click Ok. Go to the Startup tab and select the Disable All button. You will then have to reboot. After you have rebooted, try to scan. If you are able to scan, then you will know that one of the programs in startup is causing the problem. You will now need to go through msconfig-Startup tab to re-enable each item one by one, and you will have to restart your computer after each time so that the change will take affect. It is a lengthy process, but the end result will be that you know which item is blocking your HP scanning.
Please let me know if this has helped you or if you would like further assistance. Thank you.

when you have done it correctly, the screen will change and it will say service mode across the top.
press the done or ok button on the lower right side of the screen.
turn the machine off at the black switch on the right side, wait 10secs, turn back on. should work.
