Question about Televison & Video

??? My LG 50PN4500 TV has a strange one-time issue, I turned it on last night (was on standby) and a full screen "shadow" pattern of squares appeared? They were gray but I could see the colour programme still playing like normal behind them? Squares were about 1.5cm squared, each one was spaced about 2cm away from it's neighbouring squares- it was literally a completely symmetrical see-through pattern covering the whole screen. Anyone know what it was? I did change channels and run the DVD player and the squares stayed put. I switched the telly off to standby after 15 mins, waited 5 mins, turned it back on and the squares were still there for about 2 mins, then they disappeared as soon as they had appeared in the first place- weird. Turned telly on tonight and zero squares anywhere, time for me to buy a new telly? Or can it be fixed? This ones only 18months old :/ thanks

SOURCE: Vizio 42" LCD - Random appearance of small black rectangles

There is a processing fault that is starting to occure. What you are seeing is a type of aliasing. This can be in the main signal processing or in one of the control areas.

The set will require service. The service rep will test the set by using board substitution. There are typicaly a number of areas in the TV set that can cause this type of fault. Once the defective board is located the fault will be easy to service with a simple board swap and some adjustments.

If the set is out of warranty, it may be expensive to service. With many of the no-name brands, spare parts can be difficult or impossible to have.

Sounds like The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.
Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device; in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.

most LG have a "vacation switch" on the bottom right hand side of the set very near that standby light.

it is placed poorly, where you can accidently click when grabbing the TV to move it or swivel it.

it is a toggle switch, a "master power" switch.

you may have bumped it to the off position. flip the switch, your standby light will come back on.

Problem with LG LCD TV, model MW-60SZ12. there is a yellow shadow at the middles and some blus shadow starts from the right corner and goes down to the bottom of the screen. it stays on all the time even...

We have this problem too, emailed LG Australia where we bought the TV from (heard that this was a warranty issue) and they told us to take it to an authorised repairer here in NZ. We telephoned 2 repairs (we are rural and carting a 5 foot TV about the place isn't easy) and the word is the part is no longer available and the last time the repairer undertook the work it cost over $NZ2000 to fix. We are disgusted that our very expensive TV hasn't lasted very long, nor has available parts.
