Question about Harman Kardon AVR 70

Open Question

Audio My problem summary : I have : 1 .46 LED Samsung smart TV.. 2 .Harmen kardon AV70 receiver and 5.1 JBL Speakers . 3 . Sony PS3 . 4 .Segate Goflex HD media player . 5. VU+ UNO satellite receiver (new ,, didnt do any update) . (you can connect the sources 3&4&5 to the LED by HDMI ...and give audio out through optical to the hrman kardon ...but in this case .you will lose some sound quality ) So the best way is this : Iv connected sources 3&4&5 to the Harman kardon by HDMI cables ..and gave HDMI out for the video from the Harman kardon to the LED . Sources 3&4 work fine audio and video. Source 5 (Vu+ uno) don't have audio. With maintaining the same connections ..but changing the setting on Harman kardon ...(HDMIsettings....from HDMI AMP to HDMI TV ) (with this you cancel the audio from the speakers system and get it from the LED speakers). With this setting i get audio . OR if i connect the UNO by optical (Along with the HDMI at the same time) to the AVR.. i get the audio through the system speakers...but the sound seemes to be a little bit low,,,and I think it should not be done in this manner . Tried different HDMI cabel ,,,also didnt work . Same problem i had with STRONG HD SATELLITE RECEIVER ............BUUUUUT i tried a cheap quality HD satellite receiver i didn't face any problems at all . Please advice

SOURCE: Audio problems using a Playstation 3

First try ensuring that "OPT 1, 2, or 3" function is selected depending which one you are using on the H/K 146 (see manual for selection instructions). Next please ensure that the PS3 audio out set to "optical" (Settings/sound settings/audio output settings/digital out+DD 5.1). That should help.

SOURCE: HK AVR35 Receiver - Dolby Digital not displaying or working

If the display is showing as optical/PCM, then the input signal is in 2 Ch Stereo.

Try to change the signal from the source i.e. the DVD player, On the remote, go to audio and press repatedly , the audio would change from audio1, audio 2 .... and so on, depending upon how may have been recorded on the DVD. If the DVD is recorded in Dolby Digital, it may show the audio as Dolby Digital 5.1 on you monitor. Once this setting has been done, your Receiver should automatically detect it and show as Optical/Dolby digital.

Please let me know if you you solve your problem.

SOURCE: I have a harmon kardon

Check that the player's Dolby / DTS is enabled. Sometimes it is defaulted in the player to 2.0 / Stereo PCM. What model Samsung? Those Harman receivers are old favorites of mine...

We would have the dvd player optical go to the receiver, and the DVD HDMI to the TV.

The inputs may be assignable on the Harman Kardon. Make sure you have selected the proper analog or digital input type for the cable you are using.
