My broiler doesn't work in my JennAir S136 range and I think the problem is the selector switch. How can I confirm this?

Hello,

To do that you could check if the correct power is going to broil element. That can by TURNING OFF CIRCUIT BREAKER, remove door by opening to appx 30 degree position where is shold stay open, pull off door, remove broil element and attach a volt meter set to measure at least 240 volts ac and attach the meter leads to the wires on broil element, restore power set controls to broil and check for 240 vac at element. If 240 vac at element it's the element thats defective, if 240vac not present the selector switch is the problem, espically if bake works

Good luck,i hope this helps ya diagnose your oven

Oven does not heat

Your problem could be in your control switches or a bad heating element. Using a voltmeter check for 240 AC volts at the heating element connection. If voltage is present your heating element is most likely the problem. If no voltage is present then something in the control circuit is malfunctioned. I had this same problem about a month ago. Using the above troubleshooting I determined the heating element was defective.

Top element only working

How they work. First you need to know that cold water goes into the tank near the bottom (because of the "dip tube" inside the tank) and hot water is taken out at the top. Also hot water naturally rises.
so... when the tank is full of cold water the top element will come on and heat up the top 1/3 of the water then the bottom element will come on and finish heating the rest of the tank.
so... set them both at the temperature you want the water to be... about 120^F.

Electric range not heating

Remove back cover of control and check bake leads. Or turn power off. Remove element (bake) pull forward slowly to expose the connections to element, remove from element, make sure they do not retract back into cavity. Make sure they do not touch anything and turn on power set control to bake then check voltage on leads. 240 volt is what you need. If no voltage then replace control. If voltage is present replace element.
