Something is misaligned. Put the belt back on and check, I'll bet either something is misaligned or the belt tensioner bearing is bad or loose.

I have just fitted a new transmission belt to my westwood 1012, it will go into gear when the motor is off but when the motor is running the gears will not engage when the clutch is pressed

You've probably put the belt on incorrectly or not put the clutch wheel or spring back correctly. When you press the clutch a jockey wheel on the drive belt should release the tension, allowing the belt to slip and the gears to be engaged.

Replaced drive gear and now with door down and not attached to belt ,i push the button on wall and motor runs for two feet then stops push button again runs a little then stops

Make sure you put the black cup back on the end of the motor shaft and that it is pressed all the way on. Make sure the RPM sensor is plugged in. If neither of these are the issue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then try it.

Garage door motor runs but belt does not move.

Remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor.

Motor wont run on craftsman opener

You need to remove the cover and look at the drive gear. It is probably stripped. I really recommend a technician to repair your door.

Stripped gear

Try opening and closing your door by hand with the motor detached (detach it by pulling on the rope) It should open and close easily without a lot of effort. If it catches or is too heavy (possible broken spring) it will strip the gear. The door has to be working properly before you can attach an opener to it. If you lift your door up about waist high and let go of it . It should not go up or down but should stay in that position, This tells you that the springs are correctly adjusted
