Door knob stem stuck

I removed both glass knobs and faceplate from the door. When I tried to unscrew the threaded stem from the door, the entire mechanism moved and turned when I turned the stem. I bought new knobs and stems but cannot remove the old stem because it turns with the mechanism. Any help on how to remove the old stem?

You may have to apply Liquid Wrench or equivalent to free up the spindle. Tap the end of the spindle gently with a hammer to break the rust or corrosion loose. You will then have to prevent the mechanism from turning as you work the old spindle free. Be careful to avoid damaging the lock mechanism in such a way that installation of the new spindle will be difficult

SOURCE: Stuck Door Knob with No Access!

I agree with your Hacksaw method. Very easy and very fast. You are going to want to replace the knob anyway so this does not happen again. Just Hacksaw that knob as close to the door as you can without damaging the door. From there you are on your way to access to the parts of the lock. Now you can replace that knob and never have this trouble again!!!! One less headache in Life......Hope this helps you ........Joe

How to get out a stuck control knob in a Ducane five burner grill

If "get out" means you are trying to remove the control knob, the Ducane knobs are simply pressed-on and pulled-off the valve stem. There is not a screw or a bolt. The control valve stem looks like a round post that has been cut so the perimeter looks like a capital letter D and there will be a hole in the bottom of the knob in the same D shape. If they will not pull free I have been able to forcibly remove a knob by using 2 screwdrivers as levers at the same time opposite one another.
Usually when someone says they have a stuck knob they are incorrectly describing a stuck control valve. Pull the knob free. If the stem of the control valve is stuck pressed in then we can usually douse it with a degreaser while wiggling it until we can slide it out and in while continuing to douse the stem with degreaser. This will get us past this one use but the actual problem is the result of some previous over-heting damage that ruined the lubrication inside the valve body.
This happens when there is a fire, when the bbq is left on overnight or when wind is blowing at the vent so convectional heat cannot escape. The heat will damage the lubrication inside the valve and will damage the gaskets and seals around the valve and manifold.
It will have to be replaced and it is very common for this to damage more than one valve so you may have to replace several although they take time to pull the grit into the ball valve and start locking up.

Climate control knob is backwards

Hi! Those knobs and stems are indexed. Most likely the knob is cracked and will go on in any position. Check knob/stem for a small metal D shaped sleeve that may have come off or stuck on the stem. Remove that and then buy a new knob. They can be purchased at most auto parts. They are in-expensive. Line up the D shape of the stem with the knob and push it on.

Removing door knob faceplates

I reckon you are right, they are probably glued on.
You might try a hair dryer and blow hot air on the metal plates, all the whilst trying to pop them loose with a thin blade.
God bless your efforts.

How to replace headlight switch 1985 corvette

The first step is to remove the knob from the metal stem of the switch. Look on the side of the knob and you will find an opening. With a small screwdriver, push to release the tension on the stem and pull it out. Then you have to remove the plastic bezel in front of the instrument cluster. There are screws on the side, so open the drivers door and remove those screws. There are screws around instrument cluster, remove those and several other screws. Remove the plastic bezel, at this point you should remove the threaded washer that holds the switch in place. After that you can remove it from the back. Disconnect the wires, etc. Save the stem as you need to put it in the new switch. Installation is the reverse of what you have done.

The knobs on my Euro-pro TO240L have split. Where can I get replacement knobs? When I try it sends me to Shark.

To fix split knobs...

Stuff needed:

Good thin super glue.
a few inches of solid wire (around 18 gauge). 3 or so garbage bag ties together to make them stronger may work.
heavy quilting thread (if you can break it by hand its too weak)

Wrap the wire 1 turn around the knob stem at the edge and twist the ends together. Snug it just enough to hold it in place. Have the pliers ready and apply some glue into the cracks. Using the pliers, twist the wire ends until the cracks close.

Starting at the back of the stem wrap the thread tightly around the stem up to the wire and back. Remove the wire and finish wrapping the thread back to the edge. Apply glue to the thread so it soaks in and allow to dry a bit.

Cut the end of the thread at the shaft, add more glue if needed and allow it to set for a few hours. Sand the thread lightly with an emery board or nail file if needed.

How can I remove the timer knob from a Frigidaire Washer

Knob PN 131592001 Just looking at replacements it appears to just push on. If pulling on it does not get it off then rotate it CCW in an attempt to unscrew it. Just be VERY careful that the timer stem does not rotate if you turn the knob CCW or you will be buying a new timer. Open the top and hold the stem if you have too. (easier said than done) Worst case... if you have a bad knob and have a replacement knob in hand... break the defective knob. If your changing the timer look at the stem on the new timer. If it is threaded on the end the knob unscrews. If it is not threaded it pulls off.

I have a Moen shower knob that broke...

You are not the first. Usually you must break the plastic handle to remove it and then you can access the screw and have leverage to hold the brass stem with pliers while you try removing the screw. Caution, do not try to bend the handle to break it off or you will break the brass facet stem. Also, there are two styles of handles: one has a short innercone, the other has a longer inner cone. You need to know this before you purchase a replacement. Goodluck< Macgivor

I want remove the headlite switch knob.

It doesn't unscrew. If the knob comes off the stem, it is held on by a metal tab inside the hole in the knob. use a pick to depress the tab and pull it off. Otherwise, there should be a spring-loaded button on the headlight switch that you push to pull the knob stem out.

GE top load Super Capacity 16 cycle washer (one year old)

We have a GE WJRR4170 washer, with the same problem. At first I thought I might have to unscrew the entire control panel just to replace the knob. However, replacing it turns out to be easy.

Right behind the knob, holding it in place, is a nylon/plastic retainer clip. If you pull out the knob (into the "start" position), you can use a flathead screwdriver to push the clip out. The knob then will slide easily off the metal stem. A GE replacement knob costs $9 or $10, depending on the source.

Shame on GE, but the knob is designed terribly. The part of it that engages the dial has eight, flimsy plastic teeth. At any time, four of these are supposed to engage four little slots in the dial. However, the way the knob is designed, there will be a lot of wear and tear on these plastic teeth, so they'll wear out on every single machine.

Good luck to the many people who will have this problem!
