Please HELP Single MOM fix A/C

I have an older model 4610353714 room ac, and it just stopped blowing.....shut off. doesn't work on anything, the fan, the a/c......nothing........just kinda makes some strange noises, but nothing comes out of it. Is it something I can fix on my own?? I would try if its not too complicated. I don't have the money to really junk it and get something else! I need this...with asthma in the house. thanks

It could be several things, Not like changing a light bulb. If the fan's shot the unit will try to cycle, will stop, will click, will sit a little and everything starts over again...That's just one item...the easy one..
Because of it's age and other problems, I strongly suggest Goodwill, St. Vincent's. Home Depot right now, has a 5kw (small room 10x15 max.) for a hundred bucks.
The old unit is bagged...time to go!

SOURCE: Everything works, except the appliance

As I tell all the folks who report the same problem you have. There are 5 basic, but solvable reasons for what you described. Please pay particular attention to numbers 1 and 2.

1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter.

3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.

4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.

5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder
in basement applications level. Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this

If none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity condenser sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are 5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it can happen.

I hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

SOURCE: Hello! My Kenmore 53701300 dehumidifier

Dean, are you looking for someone to concur with your excellent evaluation of the problem? If so, I wholeheartedly concur. However, it may just be the automatic fan switch that is a vault and is replaceable. Fortunately, you have a house brand for Sears. And for the most part (depending on the age of the unit & which company really manufactured it for Sears) parts may still be available at Armed with the model number you can search the site for that model unit and find an exploded view of all the parts. From there, you can price and order them, if you like.

In the meantime, consider the age of the unit, the cost of the part(s) and your time to research and then repair it, against buying a new one. If you do decide to scrap it, do it responsibly. As there is still Freon in the compressor.

I hope I was able to help you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a DDR7009EE and the fan runs continuously even when the humidity in the room is below the setting on the machine. Shouldn't the fan stop when the desired humidity is reached?

Lyle, your particular model is designed for the fan to function constantly. However, the fan running doesn't mean the compressor is always running. The reason the unit was designed this way, is for the air to be continually moving, and when the humidity sensor picks up a rise in the humidity level (above where you have it set) the compressor will turn ON and extract that humidity.

Your unit is working as it should. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My dehumidifier stopped working. What can I do?

Please explain what you mean by "My dehumidifier stopped working." It's a pretty broad term, which doesn't help in knowing which direction to go with helping you. Also knowing the brand and model number of your dehumidifier is extremely helpful. Thanks

Can i use the dehumidifier without the additional heater? OR how can i improve the performance of the dehumidifier without increasing the output of the heater?

Emma, your dehumidifier doesn't have a heater. I think you are confusing the Thermometer button as a heater. The Thermometer button is for setting the the ambient air temperature in the room, the unit is running in. It doesn't change the temperatue in the room one way or another. It's not necessary to set it, unless you're operating the dehumidifier in a basement. That's the only time it would affect the unit's performance.

I hope this helped you.

I have Model: DM30A which constantly freezes up even though it is on a three foot high table and the temperature never goes below 60 degrees

The unit freezing up doesn't surprise me at all. If the temp in your room is 60 degrees then the temperature of the air will be around 40 degrees and the coil is about 20 degrees. Your expecting to much, the tempature is to cold to work properly.

It runs 5 to 10 minutes, then it stops. When I press the remote control boton, it works again for 5 to 10 minutes and then it stops. So I need to repress the remote control again to make it starts.

I guess you are having a problem. That model dehumidifier doesn't have a remote control. As a matter of fact, I'm not aware of any model dehumidifier that has a remote control. A remote would be useless. Now, some portable air conditioners have remote controls. Is that what you have? A portable A/C unit? Please advise. Thanks.

Dehumidifier automatic on and off function not working

Unless you live in a dry environment or place the unit in a hermetically sealed room, it probably will not turn off. As the air dries within the room, more moisture comes in with the air. As long as the air outside of the room is more humid than the room this will be true.
