How can I find the part number for an HP laptop motherboard without opening the computer itself? the motherboard needs to be replaced and we need to order the part online.

You can not know the motherboard serial number it-self without opening the computer... But you have your product ID and computer serial number on the back of the laptop. That should give you, at the HP Support web-page, the drivers list for your specific built. Knowing the driver, you can know what chip-set it's holding, and so, the motherboard also.

Have a compaq computer 2008 , needed a video card ,have one cannot figure out where it should be in the back of the computer, serial # 1313CL . MODEL PRESARIO NEED SOME INTRUCTIONS. IT IS A AGP 8X VIDEO...

That would be Compaq Presario SR1313CL desktop computer.

(He says quietly so as to not offend.
Compaq = Computer manufacturer name.
Presario = Model Name
SR1313CL = Model Number.
S/N is next to the Serial Number. Do NOT give out the serial number on an open forum. Only to HP/Compaq representatives, or an authorized HP representative)

Let's take a look at the motherboard, and let me show you where the AGP style of graphics card plugs in.
(Accelerated Graphics Port)

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00069442&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=447943

Please scroll down the page to the Illustration, and photo of the motherboard.

In the illustration look under the chipset labeled - VIA KM400A
The long rectangle with - Accelerated Graphics Port is where the AGP graphics card plugs into.

Now match this up to the motherboard photo.

You'll see the whitish rectangular shape with a lot of holes in it towards the top of the motherboard.
(Has a square hole in it)
This is the Processor socket.

Down below the Processor socket is a square silvery looking object with ribs going across it.
The silvery looking square object is a Heatsink. It is sitting on the Northbridge chip.

[The motherboard chipset for this motherboard, consists of a Northbridge chip, and a Southbridge chip.
The Northbridge and Southbridge chip are made by VIA.

The Northbridge chip is a VIA KM400A. The Southbridge chip is a VIA VT8237

Chip and Chipset are alternate terms used for I.C.
Integrated Circuit ]

Below the Northbridge chip's Heatsink is a long Brown slot.
This is the AGP expansion slot.

'Mr.Windy' here, but if I may.

1) Motherboard Specifications:
Scroll back up the page until you come to the heading on the left side - Expansion Slots
Look to the right.

Three PCI slots
One AGP 8x/4x (1.5V)

One AGP 8x/4x means the type of AGP expansion slot you have, will accept either an AGP 4X style of graphics card, or an AGP 8X style of graphics card.

1.5V stands for 1.5 Volt

This is how you know the AGP 8X graphics card will,
1) Fit in the AGP expansion slot on the motherboard
2) Be supported by the BIOS program of the BIOS chipset, on the motherboard.

Did this computer already have an AGP graphics card in it, and are you replacing it?

Replacing because the old AGP graphics card,
A) Is No good?
B) You have a better AGP graphics card?
C) The computer was using Integrated Graphics, and you want to install an AGP graphics card for better graphics performance?

There is criteria to follow before you physically install the AGP graphics card, is why I ask.

How do fi find my mother board serial number

Hi,

The Serial Numbers of ASUS Motherboard will be 10 or 12 alpha numeric digits.

The serial number will NOT start with a ZERO ("0") or contain spaces or dashes.
Format of the serial number:
  • 1st digit: Last digit of year manufactured
  • 2nd digit: Month Manufactured (1-9, A-C)
  • 3rd digit: Product Code ("M" for Motherboard)
Possible Locations:
  • Parallel Port
  • Side of PCI Slot
  • Side of Power Connector
  • Underneath / Backside of Product
  • Side of CNR Slot
Look on your board for a white sticker as indicated by the image attached. If it isn't there, check to see if there is something actually printed on the board usually around in the same area as your BIOS chip is located.
For examples see the pics below:

Both printer and 9 pin serial ports not working

What has changed? One solution is to go into BIOS when you first turn on your PC hit <del> key. Make sure the ports are enabled. The second solution is to make sure you didn't add a device with serial ports or something which is sharing the same IRQs, which is 3 4 and 7 traditionally (for COM1/2 and parallel port).

If you tried all this and it doesnt work, then somehow the chip on the motherboard which handles these (the UART chip) has broke, you need to replace the motherboard or buy a card with serial and parallel ports on it (this should be quite cheap, ie 10-20 dollars).

''!!! WARNING: The switch is not usable !!!''

Unfortunately the show stack isn't showing any results other than it is either a hardware or software fault. I am guessing it is a fault with the hardware as the show version in your first post states "interface Ethernet-controller 4 failed POST POST error status : general error occured".

Ethernet-controller 4 is one if the gigabit ports (poss fibre port), so if you have anything attached to those, disconnect and reboot the switch and see what happens. If that doesn't work, you could try reinstalling the IOS, but at a guess I would say its a hardware fault.

I have intel dg31 chip set , i didnt got a serial port with it so i put a anothewr serial port on it (one which was in ma old pc) but when i connect serial port with ma hardware it doesnt detect hardware....

Who is the manufactor of the serial port your adding in and also did you confirm with the motherboard manufacture that adding another serial port is possible. You may just be missing drivers or not have it setup properly. It will not come up as found new hardware. This is something that will need to be done manually. If you can confirm all this your motherboard diagram should tell you were to plug it in and how to from there on it should just work unless something is turned off or miss configured.

I want UNQUIE CPU ID NUMBER FOR MY CPU (20-11-08)

OK you will need to enable the CPU serial number feature in the bios (if your bios supports it)

or

You can download the Intel Processor Serial Number Control Utility from Intel here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?strState=LIVE&ProductID=24&DwnldID=823&agr=Y&lang=eng&PrdMap=24

let me know if this info helps

thanks

Note: Check bios first for option because the utility above may not work if the option is disabled in your bios. (if your bios does not have that option then utility should work fine by itself)

Toshibba laptop a135-s2276 ,my mother bords smd chip does not work so display of screen does not appear

The problem is well known witht this model Toshiba - the problem is the fan stops working and then hence shuts down to prevent overheating - it does not take long once the laptop is hot. Without replacing the fan just reboot the laptop until you hear the fan start again on reboot.
