Hi,

i would check with the owners manual to see if it shows an adjustment for the belt drive. most mowers today are equipped with a self adjusting arm witha pulley tensioner with a spring attatched to it. as the belt stretches the tensioner spring pulls against the arm causing it to apply tension to the belt thus tightening it. it sounds as if your belt is stretched beyond the limits of the tensioner. at least every new season it would be a good idea to inspect the belt tensioner for room or space of free play. that is to check to see if it will move opposite the pulley allowing the belt to tighten. if there is not enough sufficient room then i suggest replacement of the drive belt.

Drive belt is slipping on a pull. Replaced with Cub Cadet Belt. What else could be wrong?

Sounds to me that the belt has stretched,to a point that it slips. Most drive belts,on a riding mower hasn't any adjustments,so the way to repair this problem is, to purchase a new belt. Hope this information helps. B. Locke

My craftsman tractor wont pull itself up a hill. Runs fine but just comes to a stop when trying to go up a hill. Maby the ground drive belt is slipping????

Sounds like your drive belt is slipping alright. Need to tighten your clutch rod. One end of rod adjust. Have someone help you, move the clutch petal and your helper watch and see rod moves.

Our 24 HP Craftsman mower won't go uphill...whats wrong?

Excessive slip under load, such as climbing a hill, is usually a worn belt. It is slipping too much with the extra load of verticle movement. Replacing the main drive belt should get the mower back to original levels of power and therefore back up the hill.

Transmission belt slips, can it be adjusted to tighten

You can replace the drive belt, and make sure the springs on the tensioner and clutch pulleys are good, but the belt itself has no adjustment. They stretch a bit with age, also not uncommon for the transmissions to go bad which means slow or no movement even though the engine runs normally.
