Question about Panasonic VDR-D220 Camcorder
I have a new imac computer. miniDVD cannot be used. I want to hook up my camera into the USB port of the imac. I can only find windows based drivers, I need to know if there is a mac based driver so I can connect my camera to my PC to download video.
If you're running OS X and you have iMovie (part of the suite that comes with Leopard) then your mac has a pre-loaded driver.
Just make sure the disc is finalized, then connect it to your mac via the USB cable and select the CONNECT DISC option on the camera. OS X will ask you which program to open it with; choose iMovie. It will open a video capture screen which will allow you to choose which scenes you want to load from the camera. It will take a few minutes to capture the files and save them to a project folder in iMovie; they'll be visible to work with in iMovie from there.
Note: I believe that iMovie converts the .VOB (DVD) files on your camera to .MOV (Quicktime), which can result in a minor loss in quality. But unless you have Final Cut or some other editing software, I don't know any other way to get those videos on your mac.
I have a VDR D220 and I've used it on a couple of projects with iMovie with success. Good luck.

I've got a MacBook Pro and would like to get the movies from my Panasonic VDR-D220, so that I can view them on "PC", copy to YouTube and whatnot.
I have read the answer from sotrspunity here on FixYa at http://www.fixya.com/support/t1890955-new_mac_computer_panasonic_vdr_d220 Problem with that is, that I can't find a "CONNECT DISC" option. I also cannot "finalize" the disc, as it is a DVD-RAM.
When I connected the camera to the system, the camera asked me on what connection to type to use:
- PC-Verbindung (DVD)
- PC-Verbindung (Karte)
After having chosen "PC-Verbindung (DVD)" (PC Connection for DVD), a Finder opened, showing one folder on the DVD-RAM, called DVD_RTAV. In it, there's:
-rwxrwxrwx 1 alex staff 17961 11 Mai 2009 VR_MANGR.BUP
-rwxrwxrwx 1 alex staff 17961 11 Mai 2009 VR_MANGR.IFO
-rwxrwxrwx 1 alex staff 1396416512 11 Mai 2009 VR_MOVIE.VRO
In VR_MOVIE.VRO, there's the video. How do I get the different "tracks" out of the VR_MOVIE.VRO?
sotrspunity said, that the Mac should ask what to do. Mac did not ask. Why?
In iMovie, I cannot find the camera. iMovie -> Import from Camera only allows to import from the integrated iSight camera. No other camera is shown in the selector. Why did sotrspunity have the camera in iMovie available? Is there some sort of driver required?
